Current Trends in the Animal Models for Screening of Nootropic Agents: A Systematic Review

Current Reviews in Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology, 2023
Background:Deficits in cognitive functions are observed in various diseases. The term “nootropics” refers to the compounds that increase mental functions, including memory, motivation, concentration and attention. Given the complexity and vastness of the processes involved in cognition, developing an appropriate animal model for the screening of ...

[The original novel nootropic and neuroprotective agent noopept].

Eksperimental'naia i klinicheskaia farmakologiia, 2003
The paper describes pharmacological properties of the new nootropic drug noopept created using an original approach based on the imitation of a nonpeptide nootrope structure by means of the short-peptide design. In particular, the structure of pyracetam was designed using dipeptide nootropes.

Nootropic agents stimulate neurogenesis

Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Patents, 2009
The application is in the field of adult neurogenesis, neural stem cells and cellular therapy. It aims to characterize the activity of nootropic agents on adult neurogenesis in vitro. Nootropic agents are substances improving cognitive and mental abilities. AMPA (alpha-amino-3-hydroxyl-5-methyl-4-isoxazole-propionate) and nootropic agents were assessed

Investigations on the binding properties of the nootropic agent pyroglutamic acid.

Drugs under experimental and clinical research, 1990
The two stereoisomers of pyroglutamic acid (PCA), a nootropic or cognition-enhancing agent, and classic reference compounds were investigated for their ability to interact with 27 neurotransmitter receptors and drug binding sites prepared from selected areas of the central nervous system and labelled with high affinity and selectivity with specific ...

Pharmacokinetics of a nootropic agent, BMY-21502, and its metabolites in beagle dogs

European Journal of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, 1998
A preliminary investigation into the pharmacokinetics of BMY-21502, a nootropic agent, and two of its metabolites, BMY-42191 and BMY-40440, was performed in 4 beagle dogs. Following oral dosing of a solution of BMY-21502 (0.61 mmoles), plasma samples were obtained for 24 h and analyzed for the three analytes by a validated HPLC assay.

Senile dementia of the Alzheimer type treated with aniracetam: a new nootropic agent

Psychopharmacology, 1987
Forty-four patients with senile dementia of the Alzheimer type were randomly allocated into double-blind treatment with either aniracetam (RO 13-5057) 1 g or placebo daily for 3 months. Neurological examinations were made before and after treatment and psychometric tests were performed before and after 1 month's and after 3 month's treatment. Treatment
