Influence of Variations of Hydrothermal Conditions on Normalized Difference Vegetation Index in Typical Temperature Zones Along the East Coast of China

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2020
The eastern coastal areas of China span multiple climatic zones, and the impacts of climate warming on their ecological environment show regional differences.

Flexible Tails for Normalizing Flows

open access: yes
Normalizing flows are a flexible class of probability distributions, expressed as transformations of a simple base distribution. A limitation of standard normalizing flows is representing distributions with heavy tails, which arise in applications to both density estimation and variational inference. A popular current solution to this problem is to use

"Nonlinear" covariance matrix and portfolio theory for non-Gaussian multivariate distributions

open access: yes, 1999
This paper offers a precise analytical characterization of the distribution of returns for a portfolio constituted of assets whose returns are described by an arbitrary joint multivariate distribution.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

PMEL governs autosomal dominant inheritance of white-tail independent of yellow body plumage in chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus)

open access: yesPoultry Science
Region-specific feather pigmentation is widespread in birds, yet the genetic mechanisms enabling independent control of body and tail plumage remain poorly understood.

Impact of non-stationarity on estimating and modeling empirical copulas of daily stock returns

open access: yes, 2015
All too often measuring statistical dependencies between financial time series is reduced to a linear correlation coefficient. However this may not capture all facets of reality.

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

A Two-Level Relative-Entropy Theory for Isotropic Turbulence Spectra: Fokker–Planck Semigroup Irreversibility and WKB Selection of Dissipation Tails

open access: yesMathematics
We propose a two-level theory that connects Lin-equation-based dynamical coarse-graining of the turbulence cascade with an information-theoretic selection principle in logarithmic wavenumber space.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.
