Diversity of Gene Clusters for Polyketide and Nonribosomal Peptide Biosynthesis Revealed by Metagenomic Analysis of the Yellow Sea Sediment

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Polyketides (PKs) and nonribosomal peptides (NRPs) are widely applied as drugs in use today, and one potential source for novel PKs and NRPs is the marine sediment microbes.

Lincosamide synthetase--a unique condensation system combining elements of nonribosomal peptide synthetase and mycothiol metabolism. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
In the biosynthesis of lincosamide antibiotics lincomycin and celesticetin, the amino acid and amino sugar units are linked by an amide bond. The respective condensing enzyme lincosamide synthetase (LS) is expected to be an unusual system combining ...

Unified NRP-Modelling of Be Stars [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 2002
AbstractRecently, the line profile variability (lpv) of two low-v sin i Be stars, μ Cen and ω (28) CMa was successfully modelled as nonradial pulsation (nrp) of rapidly rotating stars seen pole-on. In this work, it is shown that the lpv of low-v sin i early-type Be stars in general closely resembles these two cases, and is therefore explainable by the ...

The structural basis of N-acyl-α-amino-β-lactone formation catalyzed by a nonribosomal peptide synthetase

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The antimicrobial β-lactone obafluorin is produced by a Nonribosomal Peptide Synthetase (NRPS). Here the authors present the crystal structure of the obafluorin NRPS and develop a reconstitution assay that allows them to analyse product formation from ...

Nerpa: A Tool for Discovering Biosynthetic Gene Clusters of Bacterial Nonribosomal Peptides

open access: yesMetabolites, 2021
Microbial natural products are a major source of bioactive compounds for drug discovery. Among these molecules, nonribosomal peptides (NRPs) represent a diverse class of natural products that include antibiotics, immunosuppressants, and anticancer agents.

Streptavidins Coordinate Biotin Sequestration and Self‐Resistance Within a Biotin‐Pathway Antibiotic Network

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A conserved genomic region between two streptavidin genes in Streptomyces packages biosynthetic gene clusters for diverse biotin‐pathway antibiotics: acidomycin, stravidin, the new non‐proteinogenic amino acid ANDA, and the new BioA inhibitor α‐methyl‐KAPA.

An Engineered Synthetic Pathway for Discovering Nonnatural Nonribosomal Peptides in Escherichia coli

open access: yesmBio, 2017
Peptides that are synthesized independently of the ribosome in plants, fungi, and bacteria can have clinically relevant anticancer, antihemochromatosis, and antiviral activities, among many other.

Tyrosinase Driven‐Intracellular Polymerization of a Porphyrin Derivative Induced Immunogenic Death of Melanoma Cells and Strengthened Photodynamic Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uses tyrosinase, which is highly expressed in melanoma, to drive porphyrins to polymerize and self‐assemble within tumor cells to form retented microstructures. This process induces immunogenic death and activates immune responses (M1 macrophages, dendritic cells, CD8+T cells), turning “cold” tumors into “hot” tumors.

Has new rural pension system reduced the intake of junk food among rural older adults? Evidence from China

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2023
At present, China has become one of the fastest growing countries in terms of junk food consumption. However, there has been less previous evidence for the effect of endowment insurance on dietary health.
