Protein aggregation and neurodegenerative disease: Structural outlook for the novel therapeutics
Abstract Before the controversial approval of humanized monoclonal antibody lecanemab, which binds to the soluble amyloid‐β protofibrils, all the treatments available earlier, for Alzheimer's disease (AD) were symptomatic. The researchers are still struggling to find a breakthrough in AD therapeutic medicine, which is partially attributable to lack in ...

Phosphodiester groups occur ubiquitously in nature, e.g. in nucleic acids or in cyclic (di‐)nucleotides important for signal transduction. Proteins often use polar or positively charged amino acids to interact with the negatively charged phosphodiester groups via hydrogen bonds and salt bridges.

Abstract Among the various factors controlling the amyloid aggregation process, the influences of ions on the aggregation rate and the resulting structures are important aspects to consider, which can be studied by molecular simulations. There is a wide variety of protein force fields and ion models, raising the question of which model to use in such ...

Entrapped Molecule‐Like Europium‐Oxide Clusters in Zinc Oxide with Nearly Unaffected Host Structure
Eu‐oxide cluster inclusions in ZnO explain the almost retained ZnO unit‐cell dimensions observed upon doping with large, aliovalent Eu3+ ions. Abstract Nanocrystalline ZnO sponges doped with 5 mol% EuO1.5 are obtained by heating metal–salt complex based precursor pastes at 200–900 °C for 3 min.

Enhancing Cold Adaptation of Bidomain Amylases by High‐Throughput Computational Engineering
Cold‐adapted bidomain enzymes have the potential to foster industrial sustainability by reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Despite their allure, these benefits are unattainable as the molecular basis of cold adaptation remains elusive and there are no strategies to guide the acquisition of this behavior.

Axion‐Like Interactions and CFT in Topological Matter, Anomaly Sum Rules and the Faraday Effect
This review investigates the connection between chiral anomalies and their manifestation in topological materials, using both perturbative methods based on ordinary quantum field theory and conformal field theory (CFT). It emphasizes the role of CFT in momentum space for parity‐odd correlation functions, and their reconstruction by the inclusion of a ...

Magnetic Field-dependent Isotope Effect Supports Radical Pair Mechanism in Tubulin Polymerization [PDF]
Weak magnetic fields and isotopes have been shown to influence biological processes; however, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood, particularly because the corresponding interaction energies are far below thermal energies, making classical explanations challenging or impossible.
