MOLECULARLY IMPRINTED POLYMERS ON THE SURFACE OF MAGNETIC NANOPARTICLES FOR SELECTIVE SEPARATION AND DETECTION OF NUCLEOBASES

open access: yes, 2020
Nucleobases are the main building blocks in DNA and RNA playing very important roles in cell metabolism. Changes of bases in DNA sequence may affect function of products of gene expression - proteins, and this can lead to inherited diseases and most ...

Molecular Details of RNA Interactions With FUS Condensates Altering Assembly, Dynamics, and Aggregation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Using NMR and molecular simulations, we map how RNA engages FUS LC‐RGG1 within condensates through electrostatic, π‐stacking, and polar contacts. These multivalent RNA contacts help stabilize RNA within FUS condensates while also reshaping condensate composition and dynamics.

5-Fluorocytosine/Isocytosine Monohydrate. The First Example of Isomorphic and Isostructural Co-Crystal of Pyrimidine Nucleobases

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
To date, despite the crucial role played by cytosine, uracil, and thymine in the DNA/RNA replication process, no examples showing isomorphic and isostructural behavior among binary co-crystals of natural or modified pyrimidine nucleobases have been so ...

Unexpectedly Small Effect of the DNA Environment on Vertical Ionization Energies of Aqueous Nucleobases

open access: yes, 2015
By a combination of ab initio calculations and photoelectron spectroscopy, we demonstrate that the DNA surrounding has only a negligible effect on ionization energies of nucleobases in the native aqueous environment. The aqueous solution thus effectively

Stabilizing Functional Nucleic Acids for Real‐Sample Diagnostics

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Functional nucleic acids enable programmable real‐sample diagnostics, but often lose function in complex biological matrices. This review highlights four stabilization levers—chemical, topological, architectural, and microenvironment/interface engineering—that preserve aptamer and DNAzyme performance in saliva, serum, urine, and stool, reframing ...

Rational Molecular Design to Improve Digital Polymer Readout in Aerolysin‐Based Nanopore Sequencing

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Nanopore sensing holds significant yet underexplored potential for decoding synthetic digital polymers. In this study, we synthesized an extensive library of sequence‐defined poly(phosphodiester)s and evaluated their performance in aerolysin‐based sequencing. By systematically optimizing molecular parameters, we identified an ideal combination of coded

Application of Mass Spectrometry for Analysis of Nucleobases, Nucleosides and Nucleotides in Tea and Selected Herbs: A Critical Review of the Mass Spectrometric Data

open access: yesFoods
The main and most commonly known biological function of nucleobases, nucleosides, and nucleotides is usually associated with the fact that they are the building blocks of nucleic acids. However, these compounds also belong to plant secondary metabolites,
