cDNA Cloning of the Nucleocapsid and Nucleocapsid-associated Protein Genes of Mumps Virus

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1985
cDNA clones of the mumps virus N and P messenger RNAs were isolated from an infected cell cDNA library. The N and P clones selected the two predominant polyadenylated RNAs found in mumps virus-infected cells with mol. wt. of 0.69 X 10(6) and 0.51 X 10(6), respectively. In addition, clones of the P gene hybridized to and selected mRNAs of higher mol. wt.

Modular organization of SARS coronavirus nucleocapsid protein [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2005
The SARS-CoV nucleocapsid (N) protein is a major antigen in severe acute respiratory syndrome. It binds to the viral RNA genome and forms the ribonucleoprotein core. The SARS-CoV N protein has also been suggested to be involved in other important functions in the viral life cycle.

Au(iii) compounds as HIV nucleocapsid protein (NCp7)–nucleic acid antagonists [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The HIV nucleocapsid NCp7-SL2 RNA interaction is interrupted in the presence of a formally substitution-inert gold(dien)-nucleobase/N-heterocycle AuN4 compound where the N-heterocycle serves the dual purposes of a template for "non-covalent" molecular ...

Interactions of Marburg Virus Nucleocapsid Proteins

open access: yesVirology, 1998
In this study, the components of Marburg virus nucleocapsid complex were determined, and interactions between the compounds were investigated. Using salt dissociation of isolated virions, four proteins (NP, VP35, VP30, and L) remained attached to the core complex.

Crystal structure of Schmallenberg orthobunyavirus nucleoprotein-RNA complex reveals a novel RNA sequestration mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Schmallenberg virus (SBV) is a newly emerged orthobunyavirus (family Bunyaviridae) that has caused severe disease in the offspring of farm animals across Europe.

The coronavirus nucleocapsid protein is ADP-ribosylated

open access: yesVirology, 2018
ADP-ribosylation is a common post-translational modification, although how it modulates RNA virus infection is not well understood. While screening for ADP-ribosylated proteins during coronavirus (CoV) infection, we detected a ~55kDa ADP-ribosylated protein in mouse hepatitis virus (MHV)-infected cells and in virions, which we identified as the viral ...

Coronavirus nucleocapsid protein is an RNA chaperone

open access: yesVirology, 2007
RNA chaperones are nonspecific nucleic acid binding proteins with long disordered regions that help RNA molecules to adopt its functional conformation. Coronavirus nucleoproteins (N) are nonspecific RNA-binding proteins with long disordered regions. Therefore, we investigated whether transmissible gastroenteritis coronavirus (TGEV) N protein was an RNA

Specificity of Baculorivus P6.9 Basic DNA-Binding Proteins and Critical Role of the C Terminus in Virion Formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The majority of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) viruses infecting eukaryotic organisms use host- or virus-expressed histones or protamine-like proteins to condense their genomes.

CryoEM structure of the Nipah virus nucleocapsid assembly.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2021
Nipah and its close relative Hendra are highly pathogenic zoonotic viruses, storing their ssRNA genome in a helical nucleocapsid assembly formed by the N protein, a major viral immunogen.

Structural Insight Into the SARS-CoV-2 Nucleocapsid Protein C-Terminal Domain Reveals a Novel Recognition Mechanism for Viral Transcriptional Regulatory Sequences

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2021
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused massive disruptions to society and the economy, and the transcriptional regulatory mechanisms behind the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are poorly understood.
