RNA interference is mediated by 21- and 22-nucleotide RNAs.

open access: yesGenes & Development, 2001
Double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) induces sequence-specific posttranscriptional gene silencing in many organisms by a process known as RNA interference (RNAi). Using a Drosophila in vitro system, we demonstrate that 21- and 22-nt RNA fragments are the sequence-

The Interactions of Anti-HIV Pronucleotides with a Model Phospholipid Membrane

open access: yesMolecules
Pronucleotides, after entering the cell, undergo chemical or enzymatic conversion into nucleotides with a free phosphate residue, and the released nucleoside 5′-monophosphate is then phosphorylated to the biologically active form, namely nucleoside 5 ...

Profile of Nucleotides and Nucleosides in Taiwanese Human Milk

open access: yesPediatrics and Neonatology, 2011
Human milk–borne nucleotides and their related metabolic products have been reported to have important physiological roles in breast-fed infants. The purpose of this study was to measure the concentrations of free nucleotides and nucleosides in human ...

Amino Acid k-mer Feature Extraction for Quantitative Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Prediction by Machine Learning and Model Interpretation for Biological Insights

open access: yesBiology, 2020
Machine learning algorithms can learn mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance from the data of DNA sequence without any a priori information. Interpreting a trained machine learning algorithm can be exploited for validating the model and obtaining new ...

Deblur Rapidly Resolves Single-Nucleotide Community Sequence Patterns

open access: yesmSystems, 2017
Deblur provides a rapid and sensitive means to assess ecological patterns driven by differentiation of closely related taxa. This algorithm provides a solution to the problem of identifying real ecological differences between taxa whose amplicons differ ...

Impact of Tandem Repeats on the Scaling of Nucleotide Sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Techniques such as detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) and its extensions have been widely used to determine the nature of scaling in nucleotide sequences. In this brief communication we show that tandem repeats which are ubiquitous in nucleotide sequences can prevent reliable estimation of possible long-range correlations.

Crystallographic observation of nonenzymatic RNA primer extension

open access: yeseLife, 2018
The importance of genome replication has inspired detailed crystallographic studies of enzymatic DNA/RNA polymerization. In contrast, the mechanism of nonenzymatic polymerization is less well understood, despite its critical role in the origin of life ...

ARAGORN, a program to detect tRNA genes and tmRNA genes in nucleotide sequences.

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2004
A computer program, ARAGORN, identifies tRNA and tmRNA genes. The program employs heuristic algorithms to predict tRNA secondary structure, based on homology with recognized tRNA consensus sequences and ability to form a base-paired cloverleaf.

Electronic signature of DNA nucleotides via transverse transport [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters 5, 421 (2005), 2004
We report theoretical studies of charge transport in single-stranded DNA in the direction perpendicular to the backbone axis. We find that, if the electrodes which sandwich the DNA have the appropriate spatial width, each nucleotide carries a unique signature due to the different electronic and chemical structure of the four bases.

Effects of Dietary Nucleotide Supplementation on Growth Performance, Internal Organs, Blood Metabolites, and HIF-1α mRNA Expression in Ascites Induced Broiler Chickens [PDF]

open access: yesPoultry Science Journal, 2020
This experiment was conducted to study the effects of nucleotide supplementation on induced ascites and its effects on growth performance, blood metabolites, and expression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) mRNA in Ross 308 broiler chickens.
