Ultrastructure of the thymus in “Nude” mice

Journal of Ultrastructure Research, 1974
The thymus of the “Nude” mouse has been studied with electron microscopy. This thymus is formed of cysts whose walls are formed by ciliated cells, mucous cells, undifferentiated cells, and cells of glandular character. Between the cysts are found undifferentiated cells, mucous acini, and a few plasma cells and mast cells.

Differentiation of T Cells in Nude Mice

Science, 1975
Cells bearing the T-cell differentiation alloantigens TL and Thy-1 were enumerated in preparations of spleen and lymph node cells of nu / nu mice. Healthy nu / nu mice had few or no demonstrable TL + or Thy-1 +

Immunological Studies of Nude Mice

1974
Nude mice pose several interesting biological questions. On the one hand they present a variety of pleiotropic effects, ranging from hairlessness to thymic dysgenesis, which have an unknown common property. On the other hand they may very well be a model for the study of immune reactions in which a single major participant—the thymus—is absent.

Influenza Virus Infection in Nude Mice

Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1976
The role of T-cell function in influenza virus infection was studied by aerosol infection of nude mice with an influenza A virus (PR-8 strain). Nude mice died somewhat later than normal mice, and the antibody response of nude mice to the virus was minimal.

Development of diabetic nephropathy in nude mice.

Journal of endocrinological investigation, 2014
Immune dysfunction is very common in diabetes mellitus (DM). However, there is no evidence whether such immune dysfunction can influence the development of DM, especially the development of diabetic nephropathy (DN).To investigate the influence of absence of T cells on DN.Balb/c nude mice and Balb/c wild-type nude (WT) mice were injected with ...

Serum immunoglobulin levels in nude mice

European Journal of Immunology, 1972
AbstractA quantitative evaluation of Ig classes in the serum of “nude” mice(nu/nu) in comparison with nu/+ and +/+ animals is reported. IgA and IgG classes are shown to be reduced in “nude” mice, the reduction being particularly severe in the case of IgG1. On the other hand these animals have normal IgM levels.

Carcinogen Metabolizing Enzymes in Nude Mice

Pharmacology & Toxicology, 1987
Abstract:Hepatic and cutaneous microsomal hydroxylating and conjugating enzymes from female and male NMRInu/numice were analyzed, and the response of these enzymes to repeated exposures with 3‐methylcholanthrene were studied. Sex differences were observed in basal activities of hydroxylating enzymes.

Immune Complex Nephritis in Nude Mice

Nephron, 2008
To examine the effect of T lymphocyte deficiency on the course of immune complex nephritis, we studied renal function and structure in Swissalbino nude and non-nude mice following injection of heterologous protein. Four groups of 22 mice each (two nude and two non-nude) received either apoferritin 2 mg or saline daily for 10 weeks.

Human lymphomas transplanted in nude mice

Virchows Archiv B Cell Pathology Including Molecular Pathology, 1980
This study was carried out to determine the take rate of malignant lymphomas transplanted subcutaneously in nude mice. Lymphoid tissue from patients with a variety of lymphoproliferative and lymphomatous disorders was employed, but only four (8.3% of total) non-Hodgkin's lymphomas of various types grew in the nude mice.

Discrepancies in nude mice.

Biomedicine / [publiee pour l'A.A.I.C.I.G.], 1977
With the increasing number of publications in which nude mice are used, there is a growing list of apparent discrepencies. To avoid such problems, we propose the use of nude mouse populations with a large gene pool which will leave, if possible, the nude allele as the only homozygote. All phenotypic characters consistently different between nu/nu, nu/+
