Comparison of fuzzy numbers based on preference
International Journal of Systems Science, 2012Ranking fuzzy numbers plays an important role in a fuzzy decision-making process. However, fuzzy numbers may not be easily ordered into one sequence due to the overlap between them. A new approach is introduced to detect the overlapped fuzzy numbers based on the concept of similarity measure, incorporating the preference of the decision-maker into the ...

Comparison of two's complement numbers
International Journal of Electronics, 1996The problem of comparing n-bit two's complement numbers is closely related to the problem of detecting whether a carry is generated from the sum of two numbers. A faster solution to the carry generation problem immediately yields a faster solution to the comparison problem. We use a variation of the boolean circuit model to present a new upper bound to

Pairwise Comparison and Numbers Skepticism
Utilitas, 2007In this article, we defend pairwise comparison as a method to resolve conflicting claims from different people that cannot be jointly satisfied because of a scarcity of resources. We consider Michael Otsuka's recent challenge that pairwise comparison leads to intransitive choices for the ‘numbers skeptic’ (someone who believes the numbers should not ...

Numerical Method for Comparison on Homomorphically Encrypted Numbers
2019We propose a new method to compare numbers which are encrypted by Homomorphic Encryption (HE). Previously, comparison and min/max functions were evaluated using Boolean functions where input numbers are encrypted bit-wise. However, the bit-wise encryption methods require relatively expensive computations for basic arithmetic operations such as addition

A new technique for fast number comparison in the residue number system
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1993A technique for number comparison in the residue number system is presented, and its theoretical validity is proved. The proposed solution is based on using a diagonal function to obtain a magnitude order of the numbers. In a first approach the function is computed using a suitable extra modulus.

On a method for comparison of pseudo-random number generators
Microelectronics Reliability, 1994Abstract In this study a method for comparison of pseudo-random number generators proposed recently by Brkic [1] is reexamined. The correct application of the test is indicated and rejection regions are constructed using the distribution function of the test statistic. The results are demonstrated on various random number generators.

A Basis for the Quantitative Comparison of Computer Number Systems
IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1983This paper describes aspects of an arithmetic design system (ADS) to support the quantitative evaluation of alternate number systems with respect to a given application and realization technology. In computer arithmetic we are concerned with establishing a correspondence between abstract quantities (numbers) and some physical representation (symbols ...

Towards quantitative comparison of computer number systems
1981 IEEE 5th Symposium on Computer Arithmetic (ARITH), 1981This paper describes an evolving Arithmetic Design System (ADS) to support the quantitative evaluation of alternate number systems with respect to a given application and realization technology. In computer arithmetic we are concerned with establishing a correspondence between abstract quantities (numbers) and some physical representation (symbols ...

Index Numbers For Spatial Comparisons
1994In Chapter 3 we introduced the stochastic approach and showed how this approach can be used to derive Laspeyres, Paasche and Theil-Tornqvist (TT) index numbers and their standard errors. In the last three chapter we used these index numbers to measure changes in prices within a time-series context.

Numerical order and quantity processing in number comparison
Cognition, 2006We investigated processing of numerical order information and its relation to mechanisms of numerical quantity processing. In two experiments, performance on a quantity-comparison task (e.g. 2 5; which is larger?) was compared with performance on a relative-order judgment task (e.g. 2 5; ascending or descending order?). The comparison task consistently
