Perspective: Milk and Dairy Provide Affordable High-Quality Protein and Merit Inclusion in the Protein Foods Group

open access: yesCurrent Developments in Nutrition
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) protein foods group includes meat, poultry, seafood, and several plant-based proteins—but not dairy.

Energy density, nutrient density and nutrient-to-price ratio of Indonesian foods

open access: yesFood Research
Understanding the concepts of energy density (ED), nutrient density (ND), and nutrient-to -price ratio (NPR) in foods is crucial in making food selections to overcome the triple burden of malnutrition in Indonesia. This study aimed to examine the ED, ND and NPR values of Indonesian foods. A cross-sectional study was conducted to collect mostly consumed

Overview of Nutrient Density

open access: yes, 2022
Besin ögesi yoğunluğu, sağladığı enerjiden daha fazla besin ögesi içeren besinleri tanımlamak için kullanılmaktadır. Diyetteki enerji yoğunluğu ile besin ögesi yoğunluğu ters orantılıdır. Diyetteki enerji yoğunluğunun azaltılması, vücut ağırlığı yönetimi veya genel sağlığın korunması amacıyla da olsa, besin ögesi yoğunluğunun artmasıyla ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Changing perceptions of hunger on a high nutrient density diet [PDF]

open access: yesNutrition Journal, 2010
People overeat because their hunger directs them to consume more calories than they require. The purpose of this study was to analyze the changes in experience and perception of hunger before and after participants shifted from their previous usual diet to a high nutrient density diet. This was a descriptive study conducted with 768 participants ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Performances of KUB Chickens Fed Diets with Different Nutrient Densities and BS4 Enzyme Supplementation

open access: yesTropical Animal Science Journal, 2022
An experiment was conducted to study the effect of dietary enzyme supplementation (E) on the performance of KUB chickens fed different nutrient densities (ND).

The nutrient density approach to healthy eating: challenges and opportunities [PDF]

open access: yesPublic Health Nutrition, 2014
AbstractThe term ‘nutrient density’ for foods/beverages has been used loosely to promote the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans defined ‘all vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products, seafood, lean meats and poultry, eggs, beans and peas (legumes), and nuts and seeds that are ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
