The Elderly Nutrient Density Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Life expectancy is improving and birth rates slowing, causing an increase in the population over 65 years of age. As a result of different lifetime exposures to risk factors causing disease manifestations, and medication use, this age group ...

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Responses of Semi-Scavenging F1 Crossbred (Rhode Island Red Male ×Fayoumi Female) Grower and Pre-Layer Chickens to Diets of Different Nutrient Density Formulated with Locally Available Feed Ingredients

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2007
Two experiments were conducted to investigate the birds’ responses to diets of varying nutrient concentrations, one with 126 eight-week old F1 crossbred (Rhode Island Red male×Fayoumi female) birds up to 20 weeks of age (growing stage) and ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Dietary nutrient density and body fat percentage

open access: yes, 2023
Background: The intake of nutrient-dense foods is recommended for overall health improvement and maintaining healthy body fat. However, there is a dearth of evidence on the relationship between the dietary nutrient density and body fat percentage ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Effect of Stem Density on Leaf Nutrient Dynamics and Nutrient Use Efficiency of Dwarf Bamboo

open access: yes, 2009
The monthly dynamics of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentrations and stocks in leaves, resorption efficiency, and resorption proficiency as well as leaf-level use efficiency, nutrient productivity, and mean residence time were studied to understand

CALCULATION AND COMPARISON OF NUTRIENT DENSITY/QUALITY SCORES FOR COMMONLY CONSUMED FRESH FRUIT

open access: yesAlimentos e Nutrição, 2012
A number of methods have been developed to quantitatively describe the nutrient density/quality (ND/Q) of foods and beverages. Seventeen commonly consumed fresh fruits were evaluated using six published ND/Q methods. Nutrient data for each fruit were
