From apex to base: Uncovering spatial metabolic adaptation in Antarctic mosses

open access: yesBulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, EarlyView.
Antarctic mosses survive extreme cold, desiccation, UV exposure, and oxidative stress. We analyzed three species by separating apical, middle, and basal zones. Each zone showed distinct metabolite patterns and biological roles, revealing spatial metabolic specialization. The results suggest that whole‐plant survival depends on coordinated contributions

Resolving the biome debate: ecological and palaeo‐data concur that the extensive tree‐limited grassy biomes of central and north‐western Madagascar are largely anthropogenic

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT For millennia, human activities have transformed ecosystems globally. Determining which landscapes are predominantly anthropogenic is crucial to conservation and habitat restoration. Madagascar, a critically‐threatened biodiversity hotspot, is a prominent example.

Ready-to-eat cereal consumption is associated with improved nutrient intakes and diet quality in Canadian adults and children across income levels

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundResults from observational studies suggest ready-to-eat cereal (RTEC) consumption is associated with higher diet quality. In the United States, studies have shown that RTEC is an important contributor to nutrient intakes across income levels ...

Applications of Biomaterials in Separators for Secondary Batteries

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
In this review, biomaterial‐based separators are reviewed as sustainable alternatives to conventional polyolefin‐based separators. For 12 different natural polymers, spanning from Protista, Plantae, and Animalia, viable strategies for synthesizing biomass‐based separators are described.

Table_1_The Newly Developed Elderly Nutrient-Rich Food Score Is a Useful Tool to Assess Nutrient Density in European Older Adults.docx

open access: yes, 2019
Objective: To develop a nutrient-rich food (NRF) score that captures dietary reference values for older adults and to validate this against a diet index that was specifically designed to assess adherence to dietary guidelines for the older population ...

Are the price patterns of cardioprotective vs. unhealthy foods the same? A report from Iran

open access: yesARYA Atherosclerosis, 2016
BACKGROUND: Although several studies have assessed the price of different food groups in developed countries, there is scarce evidence regarding developing countries.

The measurement of dietary species richness reveals that a higher consumption of dietary fibre, fish, fruits and vegetables, is associated with greater food biodiversity in UK diets

open access: yesPublic Health Nutrition
Objective: We determined whether dietary species richness (DSR) (i) can be robustly measured using 4-day food intake data, (ii) is dependent on socio-demographic characteristics and (iii) is associated with diet quality.

Urogenital Infection Risk Associated With SGLT2 Inhibitors Versus DPP‐4 Inhibitors in Type 2 Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease: A Nationwide Target Trial Emulation

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Although sodium‐glucose cotransporter‐2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) are recommended for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and chronic kidney disease (CKD), concerns regarding urogenital infections persist. Therefore, we evaluated the risk of urinary tract infection (UTI) and genital tract infection (GTI) after SGLT2i initiation in this population ...

Different gut microbiome dysbioses impact the evolutionary fate of hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
Transient exposure to ampicillin results in restructuring of microbiota to favor oxygen‐tolerant bacteria, whereas osmotic laxative perturbation preserves Bacteriodota. Ampicillin‐ but not laxative‐exposed environment favors establishment of rmpA phase variants that lost hypermucoviscosity but short‐chain fatty acids present in the laxative‐exposed gut

Low energy density, high nutrient adequacy and high nutrient density are each associated with higher diet costs in Chinese adults from Henan Province

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Objectives Food price is a determining factor in food choice which affect diet quality accordingly. However, the association between food price and diet quality has not been thoroughly discussed among Chinese adults.
