A Narrative Review on the Effect of Valproic Acid on the Placenta
ABSTRACT Background Valproic acid (VPA) is an antiepileptic and mood‐stabilizing drug with well‐established teratogenic risks when taken during pregnancy. While its harmful effects on fetal development are well known, less attention has been given to its impact on placental development and function, despite the placenta's critical role in pregnancy ...

In our study we report that OATP2B1 does not mediate pregnenolone sulfate transport across the blood–brain barrier in rats and in a human cell model, thus suggesting alternative mechanisms involved in pregnenolone sulfate brain uptake. ABSTRACT Sulfated steroids such as pregnenolone sulfate (PregS) are important for neuronal development and cognitive ...

Folic acid (FA) is a water‐soluble vitamin absorbed in the small intestine through the proton‐coupled folate transporter (PCFT) when taken orally. In this study, we investigated the effect of green tea on PCFT‐mediated FA transport. Green tea inhibited FA uptake by PCFT in a concentration‐dependent manner, with an IC50 value of 6.1%.

Abstract
Purpose: Organic anion-transporting polypeptide (OATP) drug uptake transporters are thought to play an important role in drug pharmacokinetics and toxicokinetics. We aimed to determine the influence of the individual human OATP1B1, OATP1B3, and OATP1A2 transporters on the in vivo ...

Methotrexate (MTX), a potent analogue and antagonist of folic acid, is a first‐line treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, IBD and cancer. The development of MTX resistance contributes to the reduced efficacy and development of adverse reactions, forcing clinicians to withdraw treatment early.

A literature review of drug transport mechanisms during lactation
Abstract Despite the benefits of breastfeeding, lactating mothers who take prescribed medications may discontinue breastfeeding due to concerns associated with infant drug exposure in breastmilk. Consolidating the current knowledge of drug transport to breastmilk may inform understanding of the safety of medication use during lactation. This literature

Abstract Breastfeeding is the most complete nutritional method of feeding infants, but several impediments affect the decision to breastfeed, including questions of drug safety for medications needed during lactation. Despite recent FDA guidance, few labels provide clear dosing advice during lactation.
