HBV vaccination of HCV-infected patients with occult HBV infection and anti-HBc-positive blood donors

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2006
Anti-HBc positivity is a frequent cause of donation rejection at blood banks. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection may also occur in HBsAg-negative patients, a situation denoted occult infection. Similarly, very low levels of HBV-DNA have also been found in

Dextran sulfate enhances the level of an oxidative DNA damage biomarker, 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2 0-deoxyguanosine, in rat colonic mucosa [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) given in drinking water can induce colonic Inflammation and produce colorectal tumors in rodents, although it is not directly genotoxic.

Context‐Dependent Role of GDF15: GDF15+ Tumor‐Associated Macrophages Suppress OSCC Progression by Enhancing Phagocytosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies GDF15+ TAMs as a cell subset mediating tumor regression after immunotherapy. Macrophage‐intrinsic GDF15 enhances phagocytosis and antigen cross‐presentation to CD8+ T cells through the NF‐κB signaling pathway, thereby inhibiting tumor progression.

Prevalence of Antibodies to Hepatitis B Virus Antigens and Occult Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Blood Donors

open access: yesDiyala Journal of Medicine, 2019
Background: Occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) is the presence of HBV DNA in liver tissue and/or in serum in the absence of detectable hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg).

Diminished Signal‐to‐Noise Ratio Disrupts Somatosensory Population Encoding and Drives Tactile Hyposensitivity in the Fmr1−/y Autism Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study provides a translational approach for linking neural activity to tactile deficits in autism. By combining psychophysics with cortical recordings in a mouse model of autism, we show that low signal‐to‐noise ratio in somatosensory neurons weakens population encoding of fine touch, impairing detection, decoding, and leading to perceptual ...

Occult hepatitis B virus infection and its demographic and clinical determinants among blood donors in Saudi Arabia: A retrospective cross-sectional study

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research
Objective Occult hepatitis B virus infection, characterized by the presence of hepatitis B virus DNA in the absence of detectable hepatitis B surface antigen, poses a significant risk to blood donation safety. This study aimed to determine the prevalence

Faecal immunochemical test to triage patients with possible colorectal cancer symptoms: insights from the New Zealand FIT for symptomatic pilot

open access: yesFrontiers in Gastroenterology
BackgroundThe New Zealand (NZ) FIT for Symptomatic Pilot (FSP) aimed to determine the feasibility of using faecal immunochemical test (FIT) as a triaging tool to assess patients presenting with symptoms suspicious for colorectal cancer (CRC).MethodsThis ...

Mitochondria and Neuromast Tagging With Fluorescent Gallium‐Triapine Analogues: In Cellulo MP FLIM and Zebrafish Live Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fluorescent BODIPY‐conjugated thiosemicarbazone ligands and their Ga(III), In(III), and Fe(III) complexes, inspired by Triapine, are developed as theranostic agents. Multiphoton FLIM and confocal microscopy in cancer cells and zebrafish reveal real‐time uptake, mitochondrial localisation, and whilst spectroscopic assays indicated preserved complex ...
