Odor Sensor and Odor Recorder

open access: yesJournal of Japan Association on Odor Environment, 2006

Harnessing Jasminum Bioactive Compounds: Updated Insights for Therapeutic and Food Preservation Innovations

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Jasminum bioactives improve food preservation by providing antimicrobial and antioxidant effects, especially when incorporated into active packaging, edible films, and nanoformulations that enhance stability and controlled release. They also offer many pharmacological benefits, including anti‐inflammatory, neuroprotective, and wound‐healing properties.

Population genomic insights into invasion success in a polyphagous agricultural pest, Halyomorpha halys

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 32, Issue 1, Page 138-151, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Invasive species are increasingly threatening ecosystems and agriculture by rapidly expanding their range and adapting to environmental and human‐imposed selective pressures. The genomic mechanisms that underlie such rapid changes remain unclear, especially for agriculturally important pests.

Key Odorants from Pig Production Based on Improved Measurements of Odor Threshold Values Combining Olfactometry and Proton-Transfer-Reaction Mass Spectrometry (PTR-MS)

open access: yesSensors, 2018
Analytical measurements of odorants in combination with odor threshold values is an alternative to sensory measurements that can be used to evaluate abatement technologies for pig production facilities.

Characterization of Key Odorants in Scallion Pancake and Investigation on Their Changes during Storage

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
To characterize key odorants in scallion pancake (SP), volatiles were extracted by solvent extraction-solvent assisted flavor evaporation. A total of 51 odor-active compounds were identified by gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O) and chromatography ...

Receptor arrays optimized for natural odor statistics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Natural odors typically consist of many molecules at different concentrations. It is unclear how the numerous odorant molecules and their possible mixtures are discriminated by relatively few olfactory receptors. Using an information-theoretic model, we show that a receptor array is optimal for this task if it achieves two possibly conflicting goals ...

Odor Descriptor Understanding through Prompting [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Embeddings from contemporary natural language processing (NLP) models are commonly used as numerical representations for words or sentences. However, odor descriptor words, like "leather" or "fruity", vary significantly between their commonplace usage and their olfactory usage, as a result traditional methods for generating these embeddings do not ...

An antennal carboxylesterase from Drosophila melanogaster, esterase 6, is a candidate odorant-degrading enzyme toward food odorants

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2015
Reception of odorant molecules within insect olfactory organs involves several sequential steps, including their transport through the sensillar lymph, interaction with the respective sensory receptors, and subsequent inactivation.

The True Odor of the Odorous House Ant [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Entomologist, 2015
More than 13,000 ant species have been formally described, yet the general public recognizes only two main categories: red ants and black ants. This system has some limitations, so there has been increased effort to provide additional sensory information for ant identification, including the sense of smell.

The Aquaporin‐4 Expression and Localization in the Olfactory Epithelium Modulate the Odorant‐Evoked Responses and Olfactory‐Driven Behavior

open access: yesGlia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aquaporin‐4 (AQP4) is a water‐selective channel expressed in glial cells throughout the central nervous system (CNS). It serves as the primary water channel in the neuropil and plays roles in physiological functions, including regulating water homeostasis by adjusting cell volume and modulating neuronal activity. Different isoforms of AQP4 are
