Unstable cervical spine injury following gunshot wound to the neck is rare—A retrospective review of 221 patients from a major trauma centre in South Africa

open access: yesHong Kong Journal of Emergency Medicine, Volume 33, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Background Routine application of cervical spine collar for immobilisation is a common practice but remains controversial in the setting of gunshot wounds (GSW) to the neck. Observed Changes in Maximum and Minimum Temperatures and Daily Temperature Range in the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands Between 1952 and 2022

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 2, February 2026.
Strong warming trends have been identified across the Iberian Peninsula, particularly since the 1980s and across all seasons. Increases in minimum temperature dominate at low‐altitude urban stations (below 250 m), while the most pronounced maximum temperature trends occur at elevations above 1500 m, especially in summer.

Olfactory mucosal mesenchymal stem cells inhibit ferroptosis and attenuate cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury by up-regulating GPX4

open access: yes陆军军医大学学报
‍Objective‍ ‍To investigate whether olfactory mucosa mesenchymal stem cells (OM-MSCs) attenuate oxygen glucose deprivation and recovery (OGD/R)-induced ferroptosis in neurons through glutathione oxidase 4 (GPX4).

Mitochondrial Intercellular Transfer via Platelets After Physical Training Exerts Neuro‐Glial Protection Against Cerebral Ischemia

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2026.
Treadmill training protects against white matter injury and reduces cerebral infarction. Muscle‐derived mitochondrial transfer via platelets is promoted by treadmill training. Platelet transfusion emerges as a potential low‐risk therapeutic strategy for sequelae and vascular dementia.

Exploring Repro‐Timing Harm and Benefit

open access: yesBioethics, Volume 40, Issue 2, Page 201-210, February 2026.
ABSTRACT It is plausible that time of birth affects one's prospects for wellbeing. Being born during a war or recession might have a negative impact on early life and lifetime wellbeing. In natural reproduction, delaying conception does not result in the same child being born later, but rather a different child altogether; therefore, prospective ...

Cistanche deserticola polysaccharides protects PC12 cells against OGD/RP-induced injury

open access: yesBiomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, 2018
Ischemia stroke is a disease with high morbidity and mortality. Cistanche deserticola polysaccharides (CDP) possess a wide range of beneficial effects, including hepatoprotection and immune homeostasis. As far as we know, the protective effect of CDP on neurons injured by oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/RP) has not been investigated.
