Control System of Solid State Voltage Regulator
2019 IEEE 8th Global Conference on Consumer Electronics (GCCE), 2019Creating a Smart Grid requires the development of devices to automatically control the parameters and configuration of electrical networks. One of these devices is a solid state voltage regulator (SSVR), a prototype of which has been created in NNSTU. The main purpose of SSVR is an automatic regulation of active and reactive power flows in the medium ...

An expert system for steady state voltage stability
Proceedings of Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering CCECE-94, 1994This paper discusses the steady state voltage stability control using an artificial intelligence technique. An expert system is designed to act as a decision making support to the power system operator. It suggests reactive control action to alleviate the system specified voltage stability violations. Sensitivities of voltage stability index to the bus

Steady-State Voltage Stability Assesment of the Kenyan High Voltage Transmission Network
2019 IEEE AFRICON, 2019Voltage instability has long been suspected to be the main cause of voltage collapse and islanding of power systems. Voltage stability analysis is thus very crucial in ensuring equilibrium in a power system. This paper presents a study to assess the steady-state voltage stability of the Kenyan high voltage transmission network.

Bayesian-Inference-Based Voltage Dip State Estimation
IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2017Voltage dip state estimation (VDSE) tries to estimate the voltage dip characteristics at nonmonitored buses from measured voltage dip values at monitored buses. In this paper, the VDSE is addressed through the method based on Bayesian inference. A priori including the fault position among other grid conditions is used to estimate the residual voltage ...

Solid-State Medium Voltage Contactor
IEE Proceedings B Electric Power Applications, 1993The feasibility of using solid-state technology for certain medium voltage applications is investigated. The application considered is a 7.2 kV contactor unit which despite a number of design problems proved to be technically successful. The solid-state approach, despite its relative complexity and a certain cost penalty, offers the user certain ...

Steady-State Voltage Stability With StatCom
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2006Three-phase power flows and modal analysis are employed to the voltage stability margin calculation by means of the P-V curves for different power systems' operating conditions. In this letter, a static synchronous compensator (StatCom) is included with the purpose of analyzing its behavior on the improvement of voltage stability margins.

Voltage index for stationary and transient states
Melecon 2010 - 2010 15th IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference, 2010The Fourier Transform analysis is able to estimate the amplitude and frequency of signals under stationary conditions. For transient or aperiodic signals the Fourier analysis is unable to obtain accurate results and a joint time-frequency analysis must be used to provide simultaneous time and frequency information of transient intervals.

A solid state unbalance voltage compensator
12th IEEE International Power Electronics Congress, 2010This paper presents a Fast On-Load Tap Changing Regulator used to correct unbalanced voltages. This regulator uses the semi natural commutation in order to improve the response. The proposed topology injects the voltage in only phase in order to balance the three phase system.

Intelligent solid-state voltage restorer for voltage swell/sag and harmonics
IEE Proceedings - Electric Power Applications, 2004Voltage swell/sag along with extended undervoltage conditions and voltage harmonics are of vital concern to the majority of industries today. A neural network control method for the problems of voltage sag/swell and harmonics is proposed. A novel topology of the AC-AC boost converter solves the problems of voltage swell/sag, while a voltage controlled ...

Thyristor voltage drop in the on-state
1976When a thyristor is in the forward-conducting state, all device junctions are forward biased and the device presents a minimum resistance to the forward current flow. At moderate and high injection levels, two of the three forward-biased junctions usually exhibit nearly equal but opposite potentials.
