Oncogenes encoding protein kinases

Trends in Genetics, 1985
Abstract At least half of the more than 20 known proto-oncogenes encode proteins which phosphorylate polypeptide substrates. This suggests that protein phosphorylation plays a central role inthe regulation of cellular multiplication, glucose metabolism and cell shape and that a surprisingly large number of protein kinases exert control over these ...

Oncogenic Activation of Ras Proteins

1993
The Discovery that the viral oncogenes carried by the Harvey (v-H-ras) and Kirsten (v-K-ras) sarcoma viruses were transduced versions of normal cellular genes supported the idea that alterations in certain key cellular genes (cellular H-, K-, and N-ras) could contribute to human carcinogenesis (Ellis et al. 1981; Chang et al. 1982b). The identification

G protein oncogenes in acromegaly

1992
G-proteins belong to a family of proteins which share the common properties of GTP binding and hydrolysis. Heterotrimeric G-proteins are composed of α-, β- and γ-subunits. The α-subunit which differs from one G-protein to another contains the GDP/GTP binding site and has intrinsic GTPase activity. The receptor occupancy causes displacement of bound GDP
