Meeting the protein and amino acid needs of swine (1982) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
All pigs require protein, which consists of amino acids. Amino acids are used for maintenance, growth, gestation, and lactation. Pigs actually do not have a protein requirement, but quality protein provides the amino acids which are required.

Taming the Immiscibility of Gold, Iron, and Boron to Craft Chemodegradable Nanoparticles for Multimodal Imaging and Radiotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Over half of cancer patients undergo radiotherapy. Laser ablation enabled the synthesis of immiscible Au‐Fe‐B nanoparticles designed as degradable bimodal radiosensitizers for X‐ray radiotherapy (XRT), boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), and bimodal imaging for X‐ray computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These nanosensitizers

Selection indices for the improvement of opaque-2 maize

open access: yes, 2018
The interrelationships among agronomic, protein quality, and kernel quality characters in opaque-2 maize (Zea mays L.) require consideration of multiple traits in selection. Data from genetic studies in an opaque-2 maize synthetic were utilized to calculate selection indices for use in recurrent selection.

Flexible Polypyrrole‐Based pH Sensors via Oxidative Chemical Vapor Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Oxidative chemical vapor deposition (oCVD) of polypyrrole (PPy) thin films yields flexible, electrically conductive, and biocompatible pH sensors for monitoring on‐skin biological events. The highly sensitive, oCVD PPy skin‐conformal sensors enable real‐time, spatially resolved sensing of dynamic pH changes within physiologically relevant ranges (4–9 ...

Characterization of South American exotic maize (Zea mays L.) populations with opaque phenotype. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Eleven exotic populations of opaque maize from Brazil. Bolívia and Chile, were characterized. Kernels density, lysine and tryptophan contents, total zeins and non-zeins, zein individual fractions, and soluble sugars were analyzed.

Packed for Ossification: High‐Density Bioprinting of hPDC Spheroids in HAMA Toward Endochondral Ossification

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Human periosteum‐derived cell spheroids bioprinted at high density within a hyaluronic acid matrix promote fusion and hypertrophic cartilage formation in vitro. Early encapsulation enhances spheroid interaction and matrix maturation, generating scalable cartilage templates intended for endochondral bone regeneration.

Evaluating the Impact of Biofortification: A Meta-analysis of Community-level Studies on Quality Protein Maize (QPM) [PDF]

open access: yes
Biofortification, or the genetic improvement of the nutritional quality of food crops, is a promising strategy to combat undernutrition, particularly among the rural poor in developing countries.

A Physiological Microfluidic Blood–Brain‐Barrier Model for In Vitro Study of Nanoparticle Trafficking and Accumulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A human microfluidic blood‐brain barrier (mBBB) model enables spatially resolved comparison of nanoparticle trafficking. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), liposomes, and nanoplastics exhibit distinct transport and disruption behaviors, revealing that membrane composition and uptake pathways govern BBB interaction.
