Open-Ended Coaxial Probe for Dielectric Property Measurements in Sugar Mills

open access: yes2019 IEEE Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC), 2019
In the Australian sugar industry, the potential output from the mill and the value of a sugarcane crop is dependent on factors such as the concentration of sugar in the juice and its soluble solids content. Current quality assessment techniques used in the industry are labor intensive and time consuming, preventing them from being used for process ...

Detection of Diseased Tissues with Open-Ended Coaxial Probes

2021 XXXIVth General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS), 2021
This work presents analysis of open-ended coaxial probes having four different aperture sizes. The probes are simulated in CST. S-parameters collected from simulations and the dielectric properties of the material under test is retrieved with an in-house algorithm. The probes are fabricated and the measurements are performed with the known materials to

Improved open-ended coaxial probe for temperature-dependent permittivity measurements of foodstuff at radio frequencies [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Food Engineering, 2022
[EN] Accurate determination of permittivity is a crucial factor for successfully developing new food processing technologies at radio frequencies. An improved measurement test fixture based on an open-ended coaxial probe was developed to determine the ...

On the Dielectric Measurement of Thin Layers Using Open-Ended Coaxial Probes

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2021
Using an open-ended coaxial probe and a vector network analyzer (VNA) is a conventional technique for the noninvasive and broadband measurement of dielectric permittivity. The method is widely applied to characterize bulk material and liquids and has recently been extended to thin sheet material samples. However, it is commonly believed that the method

Dimensional analysis of an open-ended coaxial-line probe

IMTC 2001. Proceedings of the 18th IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference. Rediscovering Measurement in the Age of Informatics (Cat. No.01CH 37188), 2002
Open-ended coaxial-line probes provide a convenient means of determining the dielectric properties of many materials over a relativity wide frequency range. Because of this, much attention has been given to understanding the interaction of the probe and the material it is inserted into.

Bilayered dielectric measurement with an open-ended coaxial probe

IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1994
An equivalent circuit of an open-ended coaxial line used as a probe for bilayered dielectric measurement which consists of three parallel capacitances C/sub f/, C/sub 0//spl epsiv//sub 1/ and C/sub 1/(/spl epsiv//sub 2//spl Gt/-/spl epsiv//sub 1/) is presented.

Admittance models for open ended coaxial probes and their place in dielectric spectroscopy

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1994
Starting from a rigorous formulation for the admittance of an open ended coaxial probe, this paper identifies the simplifying assumptions that are introduced to obtain more practical solutions. The predictions of the models are compared to each other and to experimental data obtained on an independently calibrated experimental set-up.

Open-ended coaxial probe measurements for breast cancer detection

2010 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS), 2010
We have simulated and experimentally tested a coaxial probe measuring system to be used in distinguishing between normal (healthy) breast tissue and cancerous (often malignant) breast tissue. The system employs commercially available components including an Agilent 8363B phase network analyzer (PNA) and an Agilent 85070D dielectric probe.

Miniature open-ended coaxial probes for dielectric spectroscopy applications

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2006
In this paper we describe theoretical modelling and experimental measurements of miniature coaxial probes with flat and conical end profiles, suitable for dielectric spectroscopy measurements on biological tissue samples. Various analytical solutions are compared with the results of simulations using CST Microwave for the sub-millimetre diameter probes
