Predicting The Operon Structure Of Bacillus Subtilis Using Operon Length, Intergeene Distance, and Gene Expression Information

open access: yes, 2004
Introduction In prokaryotes, open reading frames (ORFs) belonging to the same operon are transcribed together into a single mRNA molecule. To understand gene regulation in prokaryotic organisms, as a first step it is important to determine the operon ...

The sug operon involves in resistance to quaternary ammonium compounds in Listeria monocytogenes EGD-e

open access: yes, 2020
In recent years, an increasing number of Listeria monocytogenes strains with resistance to quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) have been reported. However, the genetic basis for QACs resistance in L. monocytogenes remains poorly understood.

Roles of PknB and CslA in Cell Wall Morphogenesis of Streptomyces

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
Streptomyces grow by extending hyphal tips, a process regulated by polarisome complexes anchored by DivIVA. Using a genetic screen based on toxic DivIVA overproduction, we identified the kinase PknB as a key regulator of cell envelope construction.

Operon structures inference in genome-wide analysis

open access: yes, 2022
The bachelor thesis is devoted to the problem of derivation of operon structures and creation of a software tool that allows prediction of operon structures.

Chain‐Length Regulation by WzzE Is Necessary for, but Genetically Separable From, Cyclic Enterobacterial Common Antigen Synthesis

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that polysaccharide chain length regulation plays a distinct role in enabling formation of a cyclic molecule important for the bacterial cell surface. However, this function is necessary, but not sufficient for the cyclic molecule's biosynthesis.

Gene Machine: The Lac Operon

open access: yes, 2012
The PhET project at the University of Colorado creates "fun, interactive, research-based simulations of physical phenomena." This particular one deals with the lac operon. Build a gene network! The lac operon is a set of genes which are

A Single‐Nucleotide Substitution Generates a de Novo Promoter That Activates a Latent Metabolic Bypass in Escherichia coli

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
A chromosomal mutation allows bypass of deletion of the Escherichia coli fabH gene. The bypass results from creation of a new promoter that drives increased madA transcription, resulting in increased synthesis of acetyl‐acyl carrier protein by decarboxylation of malonyl‐acyl carrier protein.

Enhancement of expression of one phz operon in the absence of the other operon.

open access: yes, 2016
(A) Expression of the translational fusion phz1-lacZ in chromosome in the presence of the phz2 operon (in the mutant ΔphzA1Z, solid squares) or in the absence of the phz2 operon (in the mutant ΔphzA1Zphz2, solid circles).

The 3D genome of Gigaspora margarita unveils stable chromatin and nucleolar organization and symbiont‐dependent genome dynamics

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are widespread plant symbionts that enhance nutrient acquisition and influence ecosystem productivity. Previous chromosome‐level assemblies of the model species Rhizophagus irregularis revealed a two‐compartment genome architecture (active A and repressed B chromatin compartments), yet its conservation across ...

Metagenomic Evaluation of Oral Microbiota in Patients Affected by Oral Lichen Planus: A Pilot Study

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize the oral bacterial and fungal microbiota of symptomatic oral lichen planus patients undergoing topical corticosteroid therapy and to explore microbial patterns potentially associated with subsequent oral candidiasis. Methods Twelve patients with clinically and histologically confirmed OLP were enrolled.
