Targeting G9a decreases escalated alcohol drinking in male mice in a model of combined stress and chronic alcohol exposure

Targeting dependence‐ and/or stress‐escalated alcohol drinking could help patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD). We found that reducing the activity of the epigenetic regulatory enzyme G9a (aka euchromatic histone‐lysine N‐methyltransferase 2 or EHMT2) either by a viral knockdown in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) or by repeated systemic administration ...

Exploring the role of gender on treatment outcomes in older adults with alcohol use disorder

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
This study found that older adults (60+ years) with alcohol use disorder (AUD) experienced substantial and sustained improvements in drinking outcomes 1 year after treatment. While women started with lower alcohol consumption, they showed smaller reductions over time compared to men, resulting in similar levels at follow‐up.
