Disorder-Induced First Order Transition and Curie Temperature Lowering in Ferromagnatic Manganites [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, {\bf 73}, 214404 (2006), 2006
We study the effect that size disorder in the cations surrounding manganese ions has on the magnetic properties of manganites. This disorder is mimic with a proper distribution of spatially disordered Manganese energies. Both, the Curie temperature and the order of the transition are strongly affected by disorder.

Spin-selective localization of correlated lattice fermions [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 92, 094202 (2015), 2015
The interplay between local, repulsive interactions and disorder acting only on one spin orientation of lattice fermions ("spin-dependent disorder") is investigated. The nonmagnetic disorder vs. interaction phase diagram is computed using Dynamical Mean-Field Theory in combination with the geometric average over disorder.

Leveraging the role of community pharmacists in the prevention, surveillance, and treatment of opioid use disorders

open access: yesAddiction Science & Clinical Practice, 2019
The global rise in opioid-related harms has impacted the United States severely. Current efforts to manage the opioid crisis have prompted a re-evaluation of many of the existing roles in the healthcare system, in order to maximize their individual ...

The impact of speckle disorder on a superfluid Fermi system [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 100, 045149 (2019), 2018
Optical lattice experiments which probe the effect of disorder on superfluidity often use a speckle pattern for generating the disorder. Such speckle disorder is spatially correlated. While fermionic superfluidity in the presence of uncorrelated disorder is well studied, the impact of correlated disorder, particularly on thermal properties of the ...

Spatial Concentration of Opioid Overdose Deaths in Indianapolis: An Application of the Law of Crime Concentration at Place to a Public Health Epidemic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The law of crime concentration at place has become a criminological axiom and the foundation for one of the strongest evidence-based policing strategies to date.

Interplay of disorder and interactions in a flat-band supporting diamond chain [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. Research 2, 043395 (2020), 2019
We systematically study the effect of disorder and interactions on a quasi-one dimensional diamond chain possessing flat bands. Disorder localizes all the single particle eigenstates, while at low disorder strengths we obtain weak flat-band based localization (FBL), at high disorder strengths, we see conventional Anderson localization (AL).

Medication for opioid use disorder treatment and specialty outpatient substance use treatment outcomes: Differences in retention and completion among opioid-related discharges in 2016

open access: yesJournal of Substance Abuse Treatment, 2020
Opioid medication treatment access is a public health priority aimed to improve opioid use treatment outcomes. However, Medicaid does not cover all forms of MOUD, particularly methadone, in many states. We examined associations between medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) plans and substance use treatment discharge reason (e.g., completed ...

Density of states of disordered systems with a finite correlation length [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We consider a semiclassical formulation for the density of states (DOS) of disordered systems in any dimension. We show that this formulation becomes very accurate when the correlation length of the disorder potential is large. The disorder potential does not need to be smooth and is not limited to the perturbative regime, where the disorder is small ...

Discharge locations after hospitalizations involving opioid use disorder among medicare beneficiaries

open access: yesAddiction Science & Clinical Practice, 2022
Background Hospitalizations involving opioid use disorder (OUD) have been increasing among Medicare beneficiaries of all ages. With rising OUD-related acute care use comes the need to understand where post-acute care is provided and the capacities for ...

Canadian trends in opioid-related mortality and disability from opioid use disorder from 1990 to 2014 through the lens of the Global Burden of Disease Study [PDF]

open access: yesHealth Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention in Canada, 2018
Introduction Several regions in Canada have recently experienced sharp increases in opioid overdoses and related hospitalizations and deaths. This paper describes opioid-related mortality and disability from opioid use disorder in Canada from 1990 to 2014 using data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study.
