Optic nerve as a source of activated retinal microglia post-injury
Using mice expressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) from a transgenic CD11c promoter we found that a controlled optic nerve crush (ONC) injury attracted GFPhi retinal myeloid cells to the dying retinal ganglion cells and their axons.

Medical management of hereditary optic neuropathies. [PDF]
Hereditary optic neuropathies are diseases affecting the optic nerve. The most common are mitochondrial hereditary optic neuropathies, i.e., the maternally inherited Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) and dominant optic atrophy (DOA).

Ischemic optic neuropathies: Current concepts
Ischemic optic neuropathy (ION) is the term ascribed to optic nerve disease that is the result of a transient or permanent interruption of the blood supply to any portion of the optic nerve. Anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) refers to ischemia of

Optic nerve head segmentation [PDF]
Reliable and efficient optic disk localization and segmentation are important tasks in automated retinal screening. General-purpose edge detection algorithms often fail to segment the optic disk due to fuzzy boundaries, inconsistent image contrast or ...

Spatially selective activation of the visual cortex via intraneural stimulation of the optic nerve
Retinal prostheses can restore a functional form of vision in patients affected by dystrophies of the outer retinal layer. Beyond clinical utility, prostheses for the stimulation of the optic nerve, the visual thalamus or the visual cortex could also ...

The impact of optic nerve movement on optic nerve magnetic resonance diffusion parameters
Background: Optic nerve diffusion imaging is a useful investigational tool of optic nerve microstructure, but is limited by eye-movement-induced optic nerve movement and artifacts from surrounding cerebrospinal fluid, fat, bone and air.
