Coherent nonlinear optical processes at second-order are only electric-dipole allowed in isotropic media that are optically active. Optimized terahertz generation via optical rectification in ZnTe crystals
International audienceWe report on optimal control of the output energy of terahertz (THz) waves generated by optical rectification of femtosecond pulses in ZnTe crystals. An enhancement by a factor up to 2.4 is obtained with chirped pump pulses.

Abstract Optical rectification non-linear process in CdS single crystals at the Nd-YA1G and CO 2 frequencies is reported. V OR signal measurements versus θ angle, between radiation E -field and crystal c -axis, give non-zero terms values of the optical rectification tensor. The frequency dispersion effect of this non-linear process is discussed.
