Generation of subpicosecond electrical pulses by optical rectification

Optics Letters, 1998
We describe the generation of subpicosecond electrical pulses by optical rectification of ultrashort optical pulses. The electrical pulses are generated by the second-order nonlinear response of a LiTaO(3) crystal bonded to a coplanar transmission line.

Non-resonant optical rectification in optically active liquids

Optics Communications, 1995
Abstract It is shown that optical rectification can be produced by linearly polarized light via the fourth-order susceptibility in optically active liquids and solutions. In order to induce a static polarization, two beams of different frequency are necessary, however.

On optical rectification in chiral liquids near optical resonance

Optics Communications, 1996
A molecular theory of the resonant optical rectification via the second-order electric-dipole polarizability in isotropic media is presented. A dc electric-dipole polarization can be produced by elliptically polarized light which has to be in resonance with the chiral molecules.

Optical rectification effect in nanocarbon films

Technical Physics Letters, 2004
When a nanocarbon film obtained by plasmachemical deposition is fixed between two parallel electrodes and exposed to the pulsed radiation of a Q-switched neodymium laser, a pulsed electric voltage appears between the electrodes, with the pulse shape repeating the laser pulse envelope.

Femtosecond Field Ion Emission by Surface Optical Rectification

Physical Review Letters, 2007
We show that a model based on the surface optical rectification effect associated with the nonlinear response of free electrons may explain quantitatively, without adjustable parameters, all the observed features of the ultrafast laser-assisted field-ion emission from metal tips.

Optical rectification in surface layers of germanium

Chinese Optics Letters, 2018
In this Letter, we have demonstrated significant electric field induced (EFI) optical rectification (OR) effects existing in the surface layers of germanium (Ge) and measured the distributions of EFI OR signals along the normal directions of surface layers of Ge samples.

Diffractive nonlinear geometric optics with rectification

Indiana University Mathematics Journal, 1998
This paper studies high frequency solutions of nonlinear hyperbolic equations for time scales at which diffractive effects and nonlinear effects are both present in the leading term of approximate solutions. The key innovation is the analysis of rectification effects, that is the interaction of the nonoscillatory local mean field with the rapidly ...

Optical Rectification and Gridding of Satellite Photographs

Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1966
Abstract : An operational procedure is developed for the optical rectification and gridding of satellite photographs. The procedure is described and examples are shown to illustrate both the advantages and disadvantages of the optical rectification system over earlier methods which rectified the geographical grid rather than the Tiros photograph.
