Optimal Management of Reactive Power Considering Voltage and Location of Control Devices Using Artificial Bee Algorithm

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Reactive power compensation is one of the practical tools that can be used to improve power systems and reduce costs. These benefits are achieved when the compensators are installed in a suitable place with optimal capacity.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Forecasting of Reactive Power Consumption with the Use of Artificial Neural Networks

open access: yes, 2022
Many electricity customers, particularly in the area of small and medium-sized enterprises, are characterized by a system of 3-phase unbalanced current consumption and the polarization of power factor in the individual phases.

Ant lion optimizer for solving optimal reactive power dispatch problem in power systems

open access: yesEngineering Science and Technology, an International Journal, 2017
This paper presents the use of a recent developed algorithm inspired by the hunting mechanism of antlions in nature, called ant lion optimizer (ALO) algorithm for solving optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) problem considering a large-scale power ...

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Stochastic optimal reactive power dispatch method based on point estimation considering load margin

open access: yes, 2014
© 2014 IEEE. Conventional optimal reactive power dispatch approaches operate mostly in deterministic form where the power injections are fixed. In practice, however, power injections, especially from intermittent renewable sources, and demand are of ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
