The function of the calcium channel Orai1 in osteoclast development
The FASEB Journal, 2021Abstract To determine the intrinsic role of Orai1 in osteoclast development, Orai1‐floxed mice were bred with LysMcre mice to delete Orai1 from the myeloid lineage. PCR, in situ labelling and Western analysis showed Orai1 deletion in myeloid‐lineage cells, including osteoclasts, as expected.

Blue light opens the ORAI1 LOC(K)
Cell Calcium, 2021The current optogenetic tools to elevate cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentrations either do not have high ion selectivity or activate undesirable signaling pathways. He et al. (2021) generated a light-operated Ca2+ channel by integrating a photosensitive module directly into ORAI1 channels to selectively raise cytoplasmic Ca2+ levels.

Microscopy and Microanalysis, 2010
AbstractThe Orai1-STIM1 constructed store-operated Ca2+ channels (SOCs) have been found to exert several essential Ca2+ entry/signaling cascades, e.g., the generation of immune response in T lymphocytes. Although biochemical and novel imaging evidence appear to indicate that Orai1 and STIM1 interact with each other to achieve store-operated Ca2+ entry (

Orai1: a channel to safer antithrombotic therapy
Blood, 2009In this issue of Blood, Braun and colleagues identify Orai1 as the major component of the store-operated Ca2+ entry channel in platelets. Their findings have significance for the development of safer antithrombotic drugs.

Regulation of Orai1/STIM1 by the kinases SGK1 and AMPK
Cell Calcium, 2012STIM and Orai isoforms orchestrate store operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE) and thus cytosolic Ca2+ fluctuations following stimulation by hormones, growth factors and further mediators. Orai1 is a target of Nedd4-2, an ubiquitin ligase preparing several plasma membrane proteins for degradation.

Orai1 trafficking in mammalian cells
Qatar Foundation Annual Research Forum Volume 2013 Issue 1, 2013Modulation of calcium homeostasis plays a key role in regulating fundamental cellular processes, including gene transcription, cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) is the major pathway in non-excitable cells for extracellular Ca2+ influx across the plasma membrane and is regulated by the content of the

Orai1 is an essential pore subunit of the CRAC channel
Nature, 2006Stimulation of immune cells causes depletion of Ca2+ from endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stores, thereby triggering sustained Ca2+ entry through store-operated Ca2+ release-activated Ca2+ (CRAC) channels, an essential signal for lymphocyte activation and proliferation. Recent evidence indicates that activation of CRAC current is initiated by STIM proteins,

Up-regulation of Orai1 in murine allergic rhinitis
Histochemistry and Cell Biology, 2010Orai1 is an essential pore-forming subunit of the Ca(2+) release-activated Ca(2+) channels and plays a key role in the store-operated Ca(2+) entry. However, little is known about the function of this pathway in allergic airway diseases. In this study, we evaluated Orai1 expression in normal and allergic rhinitis (AR) mice airway and spleen.
