Organic cation transporters in human nasal primary culture: Expression and functional activity

open access: yes, 2013
Background: The majority of drugs cross epithelial cells by either passive diffusion or via carrier-mediated drug transporters. The aim of this study was to investigate the transport characteristics, protein expression and localization of organic cation ...

X‐Functionality–Driven Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution in 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report a water‐based synthesis of 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 perovskite microcrystals with prominent photocatalytic (PC) activity for H2 production. The synergy between organic functionalization and HI‐derived iodide scavenges holes suppress octahedral distortion, and favor electron accumulation, enabling a PC H2 evolution ∼20 µmol·g−1 and long‐term stability ...

Localization of organic cation transporters OCT1 and OCT2 in rat kidney

open access: yes, 2000
Renal excretion and reabsorption of organic cations are mediated by electrogenic and electroneutral organic cation transporters, which belong to a recently discovered family of polyspecific transporters.

What mechanisms are responsible for the reuptake of levodopa-derived dopamine in parkinsonian striatum?

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2016
Levodopa is the most effective medication for motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease. However, various motor and non-motor complications are associated with levodopa treatment, resulting from altered levodopa-dopamine metabolism with disease progression ...

Memristor‐Driven Active‐Matrix Organic Light‐Emitting Diode for Energy Efficient and High‐Resolution Displays

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that memristors can replace conventional 2T–1C driving circuits with simplified 1T–1 m architectures by exploiting resistance switching. With ultra‐low switching voltages (< ±0.2 V) and multi‐level resistance states, the memristors precisely control the current injected into organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs).

Cynomolgus Monkey as a Clinically Relevant Model to Study Transport Involving Renal Organic Cation Transporters: In Vitro and In Vivo Evaluation

open access: yesDrug Metabolism And Disposition, 2015
Organic cation transporter (OCT) 2, multidrug and toxin extrusion protein (MATE) 1, and MATE2K mediate the renal secretion of various cationic drugs and can serve as the loci of drug-drug interactions (DDI). To support the evaluation of cynomolgus monkey

Inhibition of Human Drug Transporter Activities by the Pyrethroid Pesticides Allethrin and Tetramethrin. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Pyrethroids are widely-used chemical insecticides, to which humans are commonly exposed, and known to alter functional expression of drug metabolizing enzymes. Limited data have additionally suggested that drug transporters, that constitute key-actors of

Rationally Designed Bilayer Passivation Strategy for High‐Performance Vacuum‐Processed Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bilayer “Anchor‐and‐Seal” passivation strategy using EDAI2 and 4MeO‐PEAI effectively mitigates surface defects in vacuum‐processed perovskite films through synergistic hydrogen bonding and Lewis base coordination. This approach optimizes interfacial energy alignment and suppresses non‐radiative recombination, enabling vacuum‐deposited p‐i‐n ...

Regulation of renal organic cation transporters

open access: yesFEBS Letters
Transporters for organic cations (OCs) facilitate exchange of positively charged molecules through the plasma membrane. Substrates for these transporters encompass neurotransmitters, metabolic byproducts, drugs, and xenobiotics. Consequently, these transporters actively contribute to the regulation of neurotransmission, cellular penetration and ...
