Mulches and pheromones - plant protection tools for organic black currant production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Different mulches have been studied in organic currant production since 1997 at MTT Ecological Production in S:t Michel. Mulches, especially black plastic, suppressed weeds effectively.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Molecular biomarkers and toxic consequences of impact by organic pollution in aquatic organisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Organic contaminants are readily bioaccumulated by aquatic organisms. Exposure to and toxic effects of contaminants can be measured in terms of the biochemical responses of the organisms (i.e. molecular biomarkers).

Impacts of Climate Change on indirect human exposure to pathogens and chemicals from agriculture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Objective: Climate change is likely to affect the nature of pathogens and chemicals in the environment and their fate and transport. Future risks of pathogens and chemicals could therefore be very different from those of today.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of new benzofuran carboxamide derivatives

open access: yesJournal of Saudi Chemical Society, 2017
A series of new 3-(glycinamido)-benzofuran-2-carboxamide and 3-(β-alanamido)-benzofuran-2-carboxamide derivatives (5a–o) were synthesized for the purpose of developing the new bioactive chemical entities and evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial ...

Application of a developed triple-classification machine learning model for carcinogenic prediction of hazardous organic chemicals to the US, EU, and WHO based on Chinese database

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2023
Cancer, the second largest human disease, has become a major public health problem. The prediction of chemicals’ carcinogenicity before their synthesis is crucial.

Risk management in organic coffee supply chains : testing the usefulness of critical risk models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This report documents the findings of the analysis of the supply chain of organic coffee from Uganda to the Netherlands using a Chain Risk Model (CRM). The CRM considers contamination of organic coffee with chemicals as a threat for the supply chain, and

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Machine learning-assisted quantitative prediction of thermal decomposition temperatures of energetic materials and their thermal stability analysis

open access: yesEnergetic Materials Frontiers
In this study, machine learning (ML)-assisted regression modeling was conducted to predict the thermal decomposition temperatures and explore the factors that correlate with the thermal stability of energetic materials (EMs).
