We present the cellular transcription‐coupled Flp‐nick system allowing the introduction of a Top1‐mimicking cleavage complex (Flpcc) at a Flp recognition target site within a controllable LacZ gene. LacZ transcription leads to the collision of RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) with Flpcc, and this causes RNAPII stalling, ubiquitination, and degradation.

Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...

Is organic farming inefficient, or are indicators of economic performance of agriculture incomplete? [PDF]
Organic farming is expected to alleviate the environmental burden of agriculture, since it rules out the use of chemicals such as synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides.

Ion channel function of polycystin‐2/polycystin‐1 heteromer revealed by structure‐guided mutagenesis
Mutations in polycystin‐1 (PC1) or polycystin‐2 (PC2) cause autosomal‐dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We generated a novel gain‐of‐function PC2/PC1 heteromeric ion channel by mutating pore‐blocking residues. Moreover, we demonstrated that PC2 will preferentially assemble with PC1 to form heteromeric complexes when PC1 is co‐expressed ...

Molecular biomarkers and toxic consequences of impact by organic pollution in aquatic organisms [PDF]
Organic contaminants are readily bioaccumulated by aquatic organisms. Exposure to and toxic effects of contaminants can be measured in terms of the biochemical responses of the organisms (i.e. molecular biomarkers).

Decoding the dual role of autophagy in cancer through transcriptional and epigenetic regulation
Transcriptional and epigenetic regulation controls autophagy, which exerts context‐dependent effects on cancer: Autophagy suppresses tumorigenesis by maintaining cellular homeostasis or promotes tumor progression by supporting survival under stress. In this “In a Nutshell” article, we explore the intricate mechanisms of the dual function of autophagy ...

Ingestion of microplastics by the chironomid Chironomus sancticaroli and effects on the microbiome in the presence of PBDEs [PDF]
Microplastic particles in the environment can associate with persistent organic pollutants (POPs) due to the hydrophobic nature of plastics and organic chemicals. PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) are widely used as flame-retardants in products such
