Indoor and outdoor dust in Damaturu Nigeria : composition, exposure and risk to human health [PDF]
Harmattan and Dust (sand) storms together with anthropogenic activities including the use of firewood and kerosene as fuel for cooking, and diesel/petrol generators for electricity generation are potential sources of particulate and gaseous pollutants in

Trophic Magnification of Organic Chemicals: A Global Synthesis
Production of organic chemicals (OCs) is increasing exponentially, and some OCs biomagnify through food webs to potentially toxic levels. Biomagnification under field conditions is best described by trophic magnification factors (TMFs; per trophic level ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Neurologic Manifestations of Organic Chemicals
Organic chemicals can produce many different effects on the nervous system. The nervous system functions are affected by a variety of different organic chemicals. Organic chemicals that induce neurotoxicity may be naturally occurring or synthetic.

Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Around Buzzards Bay to a World of Ocean Science: A Personal Perspective
Reading books, a chemistry set, living by the sea, and a chance attendance by John Farrington at a seminar led to doctor of philosophy studies in ocean sciences at the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island, with a focus on organic ...
