To establish large‐scale cultivation of Dehalococcoides, 7–10 litre culturing of Dehalococcoides mccartyi strain NIT01 was performed using three different vessels made of glass, stainless alloy SUS304, and titanium. The unbreakable titanium vessel demonstrated complete dechlorination of trichloroethene (TCE) to ethene, even after being reused five ...

Abstract Trichloroethylene (TCE) is a toxic organic compound, which can adversely affect human health. The chemical is one of the most frequently found contaminants in groundwater in the United States and around the world. A landfill in Maryland contaminated with high levels of TCE decades ago was added to the U.S.

Abstract Soil is a nonrenewable resource, and groundwater is a critical source of drinking water. Effective soil and water protection, assessment and, if affected, recovery from contamination are priorities around the world; eco‐friendly interventions in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are favored objectives.

In this article, the tolerance of Anabaena sp. to lindane was studied as well as the expression of its potential lin genes. Our goal was to obtain information to create strategies for lindane bioremediation and also to find the induction of genes in the presence of lindane that can be used in the development of whole‐cell biosensors.

Organohalide compounds are widespread in the environment as a result of both anthropogenic activities and natural production. The marine environment, in particular, is a major reservoir of organohalides, and reductive dehalogenation is thought to be an ...

Abstract Coral–bacterial interaction is a major driver in coral acclimatization to the stressful environment. 16S rRNA High‐throughput sequencing was used to classify the role of different coral reef compartments; sediment, water, and tissue; in the South China Sea (SCS), as well as different locations in shaping the microbial community.

mibPOPdb: An online database for microbial biodegradation of persistent organic pollutants
This study presents the Microbial Biodegradation of Persistent Organic Pollutants Database (mibPOPdb) database, a web‐accessible literature‐based microbial biodegradation of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) resource. We also developed a robust chemical biodegradability prediction model with Graph Neural Networks.

Coexistence of two distinct Sulfurospirillum populations respiring tetrachloroethene - genomic and kinetic considerations [PDF]
Two anaerobic bacterial consortia, each harboring a distinct Sulfurospirillum population, were derived from a 10 year old consortium, SL2, previously characterized for the stepwise dechlorination of tetrachloroethene (PCE) to cis-dichloroethene (cis-DCE)
