Single-Cell Assessment of Human Stem Cell-Derived Mesolimbic Models and Their Responses to Substances of Abuse

open access: yesOrganoids
The mesolimbic pathway connects ventral tegmental area dopaminergic neurons and striatal medium spiny neurons, playing a critical role in reward and stress behaviors.

Regulating organoid and organoid-related activities:

open access: yes, 2022
This report integrates the two maps produced in WP2 (of the organoid and organ-on-a-chip research and patent landscapes) and WP3 (of the regulatory landscape) of the HYBRIDA Project (Grant Agreement No. 101006012). The result is a multi-dimensional “Super Map,” showing which organoid and organoid-related activities are regulated in which ways and by ...

A New 3D Colon on a Chip to Decipher the Influence of Mechanical Forces on the Physiological Cellular Ecosystem

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
To dissect how mechanical forces influence intestinal physiology, we developed a stretchable 3D colon‐on‐chip that integrates tunable topography, stiffness and peristalsis‐like motion within a physiologically relevant microenvironment. We showed that stretching is a dominant factor governing epithelial behavior, markedly enhancing proliferation and ...

Organoid Intelligence: Can We Separate Intelligent Behavior from an Intelligent Being?

open access: yesOrganoids
As brain organoids and organoid-based computational models grow in complexity, they increasingly exhibit electrophysiological patterns consistent with plasticity and information processing.

The Space Within: How Architected Voids Promote Tissue Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores the role of void spaces in tissue engineering scaffolds and examines four key methods for introducing porosity into hydrogels at different scales. It discusses sacrificial templating, microgels, phase separation, and 3D printing, highlighting principles, advantages, and limitations. It also addresses emerging strategies integrating

Evaluation of a Gene Expression-Based Machine Learning Classifier to Discriminate Normal from Cancer Gastric Organoids

open access: yesOrganoids
Three-dimensional cell model systems such as tumour organoids allow for in vitro modelling of self-organized tissue with functional and histologic similarity to in vivo tissue. However, there is a need for standard protocols and techniques to confirm the

A Soft Microrobot for Single‐Cell Transport, Spheroid Assembly, and Dual‐Mode Drug Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A soft, untethered hydrogel microrobot enables precise single‐cell delivery, self‐assembly into 3D spheroids, and real‐time thermal actuation. Driven by light‐induced convection and embedded with gold nanorods and temperature sensors, the microrobot guides cells, modulates local microenvironments, and supports drug testing.

Sculpting the Future of Bone: The Evolution of Absorbable Materials in Orthopedics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the current status of polymeric, ceramic, and metallic absorbable materials in orthopedic applications, and highlights several innovative strategies designed to enhance mechanical performance, control degradation, and promote bioactivity. We also discuss the progress and translational potential of absorbable materials in treating
