Original Antigenic Sin in CD4+ T Cells

Immunology
ABSTRACTOriginal antigenic sin (OAS) describes the phenomenon in which prior exposure to an antigen weakens the adaptive antibody response to a subsequent heterologous infection. This phenomenon can diminish the effectiveness of immunity acquired through vaccination or previous infections.

Original antigenic sin. A confounding issue?

Developments in biologicals, 2004
The 'Doctrine of Original Antigenic Sin', first phrased by Francis, Davenport & Hennessy in 1953, and followed up by occasional papers in the 1960s and 1970s, has lived a life in obscurity and negligence ever since it was postulated. From time to time, and with long intervals, papers on the subject appear.

Immunoschismatics: Who is Guilty of Original Antigenic Sin?

1988
Original antigenic sin was a term coined by Francis (1) to describe the tendency of a person to produce anti-influenza virus antibody specific for the original immunizing virus upon re-immunization with a related but antigenically distinct virus. In this paper, I will examine this process in terms of the cleavage, by antigen, of an intact immune system

Original Antigenic Sin in Ferrets: the Response to Sequential Infections with Influenza Viruses

The Journal of Immunology, 1966
Summary Infection of ferrets with influenza viruses resulted in the production of large numbers of antibody molecules of low avidity. With the passage of time the number of antibody molecules decreased while the average avidity increased.

Disquisitions of Original Antigenic Sin. I. Evidence in man.

The Journal of experimental medicine, 1967
When primary immunity is boosted not by the homologous but by a crossreacting vaccine, the newly formed antibodies react better with the primary antigen than with the antigen actually eliciting the response. This phenomenon bears the name of Original Antigenic Sin (1).

[Original antigenic sin in the influenza vaccination and its influence].

Zhonghua yu fang yi xue za zhi [Chinese journal of preventive medicine], 2019
Original antigenic sin may exist in the influenza virus infection or vaccination, which possibly reduces the protective efficacy in repeated influenza vaccination. This paper reviews the literature on the original antigenic sin and its influence in influenza vaccination, and interprets the possible mechanism of this phenomenon from the three aspects of
