Oropouche Fever: A Review [PDF]
Oropouche fever is an emerging zoonotic disease caused by Oropouche virus (OROV), an arthropod transmitted Orthobunyavirus circulating in South and Central America. During the last 60 years, more than 30 epidemics and over half a million clinical cases attributed to OROV infection have been reported in Brazil, Peru, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago.

A bibliometric analysis of Oropouche virus
ObjectivesOropouche virus (OROV) causes systemic infections including the nervous and blood systems, posing a significant and growing public health challenge. However, a comprehensive review of the bibliometric analysis of OROV is still lacking. Therefore, the objective of this study was to provide insight into the research dynamics and current ...

The Potential for Reassortment between Oropouche and Schmallenberg Orthobunyaviruses [PDF]
A number of viruses within the Peribunyaviridae family are naturally occurring reassortants, a common phenomenon for segmented viruses. Using a minigenome-reporter and virus-like particle (VLP) production assay, we have accessed the potential of Oropouche virus (OROV), Schmallenberg virus (SBV), and other orthobunyaviruses within the Simbu serogroup to

Biological transmission of Oropouche (ORO) virus by Culicoides paraensis (Goeldi) has been successfully demonstrated in the laboratory. Adult Culicoides, collected in an area where ORO virus was absent, were infected by feeding on viremic hamsters and then periodically exposed to susceptible hamsters at specific intervals post-infectious blood meal ...

Oropouche Virus: Implications for Transfusion Services
Reviews in Medical VirologyABSTRACT In 2024, a novel recombinant of the Oropouche virus emerged as a potential threat. This virus has caused a significant outbreak in Brazil and Cuba, with imported cases subsequently reported in the USA and Europe. This review summarises the existing knowledge on the Oropouche virus, and discusses potential risk mitigation ...

Dengue and Oropouche virus co-infection in a traveller from Cuba to Portugal
In 2024, unprecedented outbreaks of dengue and Oropouche were reported in the Americas. We describe a documented co-infection with dengue and Oropouche viruses in a 35-year-old traveller from Cuba detected in Portugal.
