Construction of a novel fungal gus expression plasmid, and its evaluation in Aspergillus nidulans : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Genetics at Massey University [PDF]
A GUS expression plasmid, pFunGus, was constructed containing a multi-cloning site for the insertion of gene regulatory elements, to be used in fungal reporter gene studies.

Identification and Validation of Novel Drug Targets for the Treatment of Plasmodium falciparum Malaria: New Insights [PDF]
In order to counter the malarial parasite’s striking ability to rapidly develop drug resistance, a constant supply of novel antimalarial drugs and potential drug targets must be available.

Integrated human-virus metabolic stoichiometric modelling predicts host-based antiviral targets against Chikungunya, Dengue and Zika viruses [PDF]
Current and reoccurring viral epidemic outbreaks such as those caused by the Zika virus illustrate the need for rapid development of antivirals. Such development would be facilitated by computational approaches that can provide experimentally testable ...

The nucleotide sequence of the URA3 gene encoding orotidine-5′-phosphate decarboxylase (OMPDCase) in sourdough yeast Candida milleri CBS 8195 was determined by degenerate PCR and genome walking. Sequence analysis revealed the presence of an openreading frame of 810 bp, encoding 269 amino acid residue protein with the highest identity to the OMPDCase of

A gene complementing a ura3 mutation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae was isolated from Kluyveromyces lactis. Its nucleotide sequence showed an open reading frame of 801 bp, corresponding to 267 amino acid residues. These are homologous to the coding region of URA3 gene of S. cerevisiae, 71% and 82% at the nucleotide and the amino acid levels, respectively.

Trehalose is required for the acquisition of tolerance to a variety of stresses in the filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans [PDF]
Trehalose is a non-reducing disaccharide found at high concentrations in Aspergillus nidulans conidia and rapidly degraded upon induction of conidial germination. Furthermore, trehalose is accumulated in response to a heat shock or to an oxidative shock.

An Engineered Nonsense \u3cem\u3eURA3\u3c/em\u3e Allele Provides a Versatile System to Detect the Presence, Absence and Appearance of the [em\u3ePSI\u3c/em\u3e\u3csup\u3e+\u3c/sup\u3e] Prion in \u3cem\u3eSaccharomyces cerevisiae\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]
Common methods to identify yeast cells containing the prion form of the Sup35 translation termination factor, [PSI+], involve a nonsense suppressor phenotype. Decreased function of Sup35p in [PSI+] cells leads to readthrough of certain nonsense mutations

The disruption of JEN1 from Candida albicans impairs the transport of lactate [PDF]
A lactate permease was biochemically identified in Candida albicans RM1000 presenting the following kinetic parameters at pH 5.0: Km 0.33 ± 0.09 mM and Vmax 0.85± 0.06 nmol s-1 mg dry wt-1.

Nitrogen regulation of protein–protein interactions and transcript levels of GlnK PII regulator and AmtB ammonium transporter homologs in Archaea [PDF]
Gene homologs of GlnK PII regulators and AmtB-type ammonium transporters are often paired on prokaryotic genomes, suggesting these proteins share an ancient functional relationship.
