Small signal cell stability with focus on inter-cell oscillations in the web-of-cells framework
2017 IEEE 58th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON), 2017The paper aims at describing observables used in small signal stability assessment based on Energy-Sorted Prony's method focusing at area and inter-area level of the power system. Presented research studies are based on a new way of power system operation, namely Web-of-cell concept, devised within FP7 IRP ELECTRA.

AbstractA persistent basal tone in the internal anal sphincter (IAS) is essential for keeping the anal canal closed and fecal continence; its inhibition via the rectoanal inhibitory reflex (RAIR) is required for successful defecation. However, cellular signals underlying the IAS basal tone remain enigmatic.

Receptor-activated cytoplasmic calcium (Ca2+) oscillations have been investigated in single pancreatic acinar cells by microfluorimetry (Fura-2 as indicator). At submaximal concentrations of the agonists acetylcholine (ACh) and cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8), both give rise to oscillatory changes in the cytosolic free calcium concentration ([Ca2 ...

Abstract A03: SCFCyclin F connects AKT signaling to the core cell cycle oscillator
Molecular Cancer Research, 2016Abstract Cell proliferation is governed by the presence of growth factors, and in their absence normal cells cease to progress through the cell cycle. The waves of Cyclin Dependent Kinase (CDK) activity constituting the core of the cell cycle oscillator are driven by cyclin synthesis and its subsequent destruction by the Anaphase ...

ABSTRACT Cells of Dictyostelium discoideum known to release cyclic AMP (cAMP) rhythmically in the form of pulses, change with the same period of about 8 min the pH of their medium. The pH is used here as an indicator to investigate the effect of externally added cAMP pulses on the oscillations.

Isopeptides of the newly discovered peptide family, endothelins (ET), caused a concentration-dependent increase in intracellular free [Ca2+] ([Ca2+]i) in human glomerular mesangial cells. ET isopeptides and sarafotoxin S6b caused transient and sustained [Ca2+]i waveforms which resulted from mobilization of intracellular Ca2+ stores and from Ca2+ influx

On the effect of circadian oscillations on biochemical cell signaling by NF−κB
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2013We report the results of a numerical investigation of a mathematical model for NF-κB oscillations, described by a set of ordinary nonlinear differential equations, when perturbed by a circadian oscillation. The main result is that a circadian rhythm, even when it represents a weak perturbation, enhances the signaling capabilities of NF-κB oscillations.

Human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) have the potential to differentiate into several types of cells. Calcium ions (Ca(2+)) play an important role in the differentiation and proliferation of hMSCs. We have demonstrated that spontaneous [Ca(2+)](i) oscillations occur without agonist stimulation in hMSCs.

Receptor-activated cytoplasmic Ca2+ oscillations have been investigated using both single cell microfluorometry and voltage-clamp recording of Ca(2+)-dependent Cl- current in single internally perfused acinar cells. In these cells there is direct experimental evidence showing that the ACh-evoked [Ca2+]i fluctuations are due to an inositol trisphosphate-
