Experimental Vertebroplasty Using Osteoconductive Granular Material
Spine, 2000Osteoporotic human cadaveric thoracic vertebral bodies and vertebral bodies from mature sheep were used as model systems to assess coral resorption and new bone formation after injection of coral granules. To evaluate the use of natural coral exoskeleton, an osteoconductive material, for the filling of vertebral bodies.Percutaneous injection of ...

Cranioplasty Using Osteoconductive Scaffold and Platelet Glue
Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection & Critical Care, 2008An alternative to autogenous bone grafts or to methyl methacrylate in the reconstruction of full-thickness calvarial bone defect is needed. The safety and efficacy of biphasic calcium phosphate osteoconductive scaffold (Triosite) combined with platelet glue for the reconstruction of posttraumatic calvarial bone defect was evaluated in six consecutive ...

Osteoconductive Coatings for Total Joint Arthroplasty
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 2002Osteoconductive calcium phosphate coatings for total joint arthroplasty have been in clinical use since the mid1980s. The basic principles involved and basic science evidence for the efficacy of osteoconductive coatings were examined. Hydroxyapatite coatings provide consistent and better filling with bone of the gaps and spaces around cementless joint ...

Hydrothermal treatment of titanium alloys for the enhancement of osteoconductivity
Materials Science and Engineering: C, 2015The surface wettability of implants is a crucial factor in their osteoconductivity because it influences the adsorption of cell-attached proteins onto the surface. In this study, a single-step hydrothermal surface treatment using distilled water at a temperature of 180°C for 3h was applied to titanium (Ti) and its alloys (Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-6Al-7Nb, Ti-29Nb-

Octacalcium phosphate: Osteoconductivity and crystal chemistry
Acta Biomaterialia, 2010Octacalcium phosphate (OCP), which is structurally similar to hydroxyapatite (HA), is a possible precursor of bone apatite crystals. Although disagreement remains as to whether OCP comprises the initial mineral crystals in the early stage of bone mineralization, the results of recent biomaterial studies using synthetic OCP indicate the potential role ...

Osteoconductive properties of methylpyrrolidinone chitosan in an animal model
Biomaterials, 1993Bone defects were surgically produced in the tibiae of rabbits and medicated with freeze-dried methylpyrrolidinone chitosan. Histological observations 60 d after surgery showed a considerable presence of neoformed bone tissue, as opposed to controls, originating from the pre-existing bone as well as from the periosteum.

Mechanical properties and osteoconductivity of porous bioactive titanium
Biomaterials, 2005Porous bioactive titanium implants (porosity of 40%) were produced by a plasma-spray method and subsequent chemical and thermal treatments of immersion in a 5M aqueous NaOH solution at 60 degrees C for 24 h, immersion in distilled water at 40 degrees C for 48 h, and heating to 600 degrees C for 1 h.

Osteoconductivity and Osteoinductivity of Puros® DBM Putty
Journal of Biomaterials Applications, 2010Bone graft substitutes have been developed due to the limited supply and morbidity associated with using autogenous graft material. Allogeneic demineralized bone matrix (DBM) has been used extensively as a clinical graft material because of its inherent osteoinductive and osteoconductive properties.

Biocompatibility and osteoconductivity of the pyrost bone substitutes.
Histology and histopathology, 1997The purpose of this study was to re-evaluate the bone regeneration power and the in vitro biocompatibility of the Pyrost bone substitute. Twenty-four adult New Zealand White rabbits were used. Bony defect over both iliac crest and mid-diaphyseal portion of the ulna bone were created.

Osteoconductive Nanocomposite Materials for Bone Regeneration
Materials Science Forum, 2012Bone defect is one of the most important problem in orthopaedic therapy in which application of a biomaterial filling is necessary. Such material should be biocompatible, osteoconductive and porous as well as bioactive and compatible with the bone tissue.
