Food and Medicine Homologous Plants in Osteoporosis: A Scoping Review of Preclinical Evidence [PDF]

open access: yesFood Sci Nutr
Food and medicine homologous (FMH) plants and their bioactive compounds exhibit potential osteoprotective effects through multiple complementary mechanisms, including estrogen‐like signaling, attenuation of oxidative stress, modulation of the gut microbiota–bone axis, and regulation of autophagy.

The Rising Burden of Osteosarcopenia in Older Adults: A Narrative Review of Pathophysiology, Diagnostic Challenges, and Therapeutic Perspectives

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Osteosarcopenia, defined as the coexistence of osteoporosis and sarcopenia, is an emerging geriatric syndrome linked to the musculoskeletal decline associated with aging. It is correlated with an increased risk of falls, fractures, disability, and mortality.

Close to the bone: investigations into bone tissue mineralisation and mechanobiology of osteoporosis

open access: yes, 2012
Osteoporosis is a metabolic skeletal disease characterized by low bone mass, depleted micro-architecture and reduced strength. The public health costs of osteoporosis relate almost entirely to the fractures that are the clinical manifestation of the ...

Management of postmenopausal osteoporosis.

open access: yesMalaysian family physician : the official journal of the Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia, 2013
Osteoporosis (OP) is a systemic skeletal disease characterised by low bone mass and micro-architectural deterioration of bone tissue, with a consequent increase in bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture. Common sites of osteoporotic fractures are in the spine (vertebral), hip (proximal femur) or wrist (distal forearm).

Vascular Calcification: Mechanisms, Models, and Therapies

open access: yesiNew Medicine, Volume 2, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Vascular calcification represents an active multifactorial process that mirrors several key features of skeletal bone mineralization. Clinically, it is characterized by diminished arterial compliance and increased arterial wall stiffness, both of which serve as independent predictors of significant adverse cardiovascular events.

The Effect of Bisphosphonate Treatment on Blood Lipid Parameters in Patients with Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

open access: yes, 2005
Bisphosphonates are currently the most preferred class of drugs used for the treatment of metabolic bone disease such as osteoporosis and Paget’s disease. Although their exact mechanism has not been identified, the compounds containing amino group (amino

Detrimental Effect of Low‐Magnitude High‐Frequency Vibration in an Ex Vivo Model of Intervertebral Disc Degeneration Despite Estrogen Treatment

open access: yesJOR SPINE, Volume 9, Issue 2, June 2026.
Low‐magnitude high‐frequency vibration (LMHFV), with or without 17β‐oestradiol (E2), exacerbated papain‐induced bovine intervertebral disc degeneration, reducing cell viability, impairing matrix production, and increasing inflammation. E2 showed no protective effect against papain‐induced degeneration or LMHFV.

Beyond the Known and Established Neurodegenerative Effects: Roles of APOE Across a Wide Spectrum of Pathophysiological Condition

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
APOE is widely recognized for its role in neurodegeneration and cardiovascular disease, but its different genotypes also influence body composition, affecting obesity, bone density, and muscle mass, through their central role in lipid transport and metabolism.
