In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

ATP-dependent phosphatidylcholine translocation in rat liver canalicular plasma membrane vesicles
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) translocation was studied in rat liver canalicular plasma membrane vesicles using a fluorescent PC analogue that permitted the quantitation of asymmetric PC distribution in the outer and inner leaflet of the vesicles.

Photoreceptor Outer Segment-like Structures in Long-Term 3D Retinas from Human Pluripotent Stem Cells. [PDF]
The retinal degenerative diseases, which together constitute a leading cause of hereditary blindness worldwide, are largely untreatable. Development of reliable methods to culture complex retinal tissues from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) could ...

Protein O‐glycosylation in the Bacteroidota phylum
Species of the Bacteroidota phylum exhibit a unique O‐glycosylation system. It modifies noncytoplasmic proteins on a specific amino acid motif with a shared glycan core but a species‐specific outer glycan. A locus of multiple glycosyltransferases responsible for the synthesis of the outer glycan has been identified.

Autophagosome marker, LC3, is released extracellularly via several distinct pathways
This study establishes a novel HiBiT‐tagging system for ultrasensitive detection of LC3, revealing multiple pathways for its extracellular secretion. It demonstrates that LC3 is released via both autophagy‐dependent and ‐independent mechanisms, including a novel route for nonlipidated LC3‐I.

Preparation of Outer Membrane Vesicle from Escherichia coli
Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are spherical bilayered phospholipids of 20-200 nm in size produced from all Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria investigated to date.

Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are universally produced by prokaryotes and play important roles in symbiotic and pathogenic interactions. They often contain DNA, but a mechanism for its incorporation is lacking. Here, we show that Dinoroseobacter shibae,

GMMA from genetically-engineered meningococcus as vaccine for Africa [PDF]
Gram-negative bacteria naturally shed outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). Structural changes in bacterial outer membrane lead to GMMA, Generalized Modules for Membrane Antigens: outer membrane vesicles to use as vaccine. They are safe, cheap to produce, and

How Well Can You Tailor the Charge of Lipid Vesicles? [PDF]
Knowledge and control of surface charge or potential is important for tailoring colloidal interactions. In this work, we compare widely used zeta potential (ζ) measurements of charged lipid vesicle surface potential to direct measurements using the ...
