Biomarkers to predict outcomes in diabetic foot ulcers

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Studies attempting to predict the healing outcome of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) have investigated various biological materials and recovered molecules that may aid in discriminating wounds that will heal and those that will not heal. This graphical abstract captures the commonly studied classes of biomarkers in the context of DFUs.

Cranial and trunk neural crest cells use different mechanisms for attachment to extracellular matrices [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
We have used a quantitative cell attachment assay to compare the interactions of cranial and trunk neural crest cells with the extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules fibronectin, laminin and collagen types I and IV.

Oral Immunotherapy Induces Shift in lncRNA Expression Modulating Allergen‐Specific Immune Responses

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
We used PBMC transcriptome from 50 hen's egg‐allergic patients to study the role of lncRNA in OIT. Positive correlation was found between 17 lncRNAs and the IL‐4/IL‐13 pathway in vivo, and the expression of the selected lncRNA aligned with CXCL8 upon PBMC egg‐restimulation.

Sequence of Immunological Events During IgE‐Mediated Allergic Reactions to Food

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Food allergies (FA) represent a significant global health burden. Upon allergen re‐exposure, allergic patients exhibit a sequence of symptoms that vary in terms of affected organ systems, severity, time of onset and allergen reactivity thresholds.

Update on Non‐Biological and RNA‐Based Therapeutics in Chronic Inflammatory Diseases: Precision Medicine Through Small Molecules: An EAACI Position Paper

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the last decades, critical advancements in research technology and knowledge on disease mechanisms steered therapeutic approaches for chronic inflammatory diseases towards unprecedented target specificity. For allergic and chronic lung diseases, biologic drugs pioneered this goal, acquiring on the way—through the clinical use of monoclonal ...

A Case for Anti‐IgE Vaccination

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Immunoglobulin E (IgE) plays a central role in allergic diseases by binding to the high‐affinity receptor FcεRI on mast cells and basophils, where allergen‐induced crosslinking triggers potent inflammatory responses. Various mechanisms by which IgE responses are generated and functionally regulated remain elusive despite many years of research.

The Role of Ovalbumin in Manganese Homeostasis during Chick Embryogenesis: An EPR Spectroscopic Study

open access: yesMolecules
Ovalbumin (OVA), a protein vital for chick embryo nutrition, hydration, and antimicrobial protection, together with other egg-white proteins, migrates to the amniotic fluid and is orally absorbed by the embryo during embryogenesis.

The specifity of serological precipitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1946
Precipitative mixing experiments have been conducted with the aid of a turbidimeter and a darkfield microscope. The results of these experiments, correlated with observations of macroscopic features, indicate that serological precipitation is largely ...

Resolving Endoplasmic Reticulum‐Protein Misfolding Restores Corticosteroid Sensitivity in Experimental Models of Severe Asthma

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This study investigates the role of ER stress in steroid resistance in severe asthma. Results from advanced 3D models of human bronchial epithelial cells, steroid‐resistant severe asthma mouse models, and human severe asthma sputum samples show that treatment with ICS in combination with the ER stress inhibitor 4‐PBA significantly enhances steroid ...

Age-Dependent Effects of Yolkin on Contact Sensitivity and Immune Phenotypes in Juvenile Mice

open access: yesMolecules
Yolkin, an egg yolk immunoregulatory protein, stimulates the humoral but inhibits the cellular immune response in adult mice. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the effects of yolkin administration on the immune response using a model of ...
