Added Prognostic Value of EEG Reactivity in Comatose Patients Following Cardiac Arrest

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the added prognostic value of EEG reactivity for favorable outcome compared with background analysis during and after targeted temperature management (TTM). Methods Prospective observational cohort study of comatose post–cardiac arrest patients admitted to a single academic center between 2017 and 2022, all undergoing ...

Turbine cooling and heat transfer modelling for gas turbine performance simulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The successful design of cooling systems for gas turbine engines is a key factor to feasibility of new projects, as the trend for increasing turbine entry temperatures implies requirements for more sophisticated cooling methods.

Cognitive and Neuroimaging Divergence Between Juvenile and Adult FUS Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Fused in sarcoma (FUS)‐associated juvenile ALS (jALS) represents a distinct and aggressive subgroup with rapid deterioration and poor prognosis.

Experimental and Simulation Study on the Performance of Counter Flow Closed Cooling Tower Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2015
Cooling towers are required in building HVAC systems that use water as the cooling condenser fluid. Cooling towers used in this study are of the forced draft, counter flow, indirect/closed evaporative type.

Large Eddy simulation in optimizing trench configuration to improve cooling effectiveness of a laidback fan-shaped hole

open access: yes, 2023
In modern gas turbines, a thermal barrier coating (TBC) is used to protect the components of the turbine from the hot flow coming from the combustor, which results in the cooling holes on the blade surfaces being embedded in a 2D trench slot.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Study of overall cooling effectiveness of discrete holes with different angles to concave wall

open access: yes, 2007
Overall cooling effectiveness of curved walls with discrete angled holes has been studied in the paper through approximate simulation employing experimental concave walls with a constant curvature, which were applied intensively in the curved duct for ...

The influence the number of holes on effusion cooling effectiveness for an X/D of 4.7

open access: yes, 2015
Conjugate heat transfer CFD predictions were made, using ANSYS FLUENT, of the effects of the number of holes per square metre of surface area, N, on effusion overall cooling effectiveness for square array holes with a pitch to diameter ratio, X/D, or 4.7.

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the
