Overset grids in compressible flow

7th Computational Physics Conference, 1985
Numerical experiments have been performed to investigate the importance of boundary data handling with overset grids in computational fluid dynamics. Experience in using embedded grid techniques in compressible flow has shown that shock waves which cross grid boundaries become ill defined and convergence is generally degraded.

Advance in overset grid schemes - From Chimera to DRAGON grids

AIAA Journal, 1995
The authors suggest to use unstructured grids to fill the gap between arbitrarily structured grids. Thereby the overlap of structured grids in the framework of Chimera grids can be avoided. The application of the new grid generation technique, called the DRAGON grid method, is demonstrated for three test cases: the supersonic flow past a cylinder, the ...

An overset grid method for the study of reflex tearing

Mathematical Medicine and Biology, 2008
We present an overset grid method to simulate the evolution of human tear film thickness subject to reflex tearing. The free-surface evolution is governed by a single fourth-order non-linear equation derived from lubrication theory with specified film thickness and volume flux at each end.

Compressible lattice Boltzmann method with rotating overset grids

Physical Review E, 2023
The numerical instability of the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) at high Mach or high Reynolds number flow is well identified, and it remains a major barrier to its application in more complex configurations such as moving geometries. This work combines the compressible lattice Boltzmann model with rotating overset grids (the so-called Chimera method ...

On parallel implementations of dynamic overset grid methods

Proceedings of the 1997 ACM/IEEE conference on Supercomputing (CDROM) - Supercomputing '97, 1997
This paper explores the parallel performance of structured overset CFD computations for multicomponent bodies in which there is relative motion between component parts. The two processes that dominate the cost of such problems are the flow solution on each component and the inter-grid connectivity solution.
