Evaluation of Lethal Giant Larvae as a Schistosomiasis Vaccine Candidate
Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease of humans, and it is considered to be the second most devastating parasitic disease after malaria. Eggs produced by normally developed female worms are important in the transmission of the parasite, and they responsible for the pathogenesis of schistosomiasis. The tumor suppressor gene lethal giant larvae

Response of drug resistant isolates of Schistosoma mansoni to antischistosomal agents
The susceptibility of four isolates of Schistosoma mansoni (BH, MAP, MPR-1 and K) to four multiple doses of anti-schistosomal agents (hycanthone, niridazole, oxamniquire, and praziquantel) were evaluated in infected female Swiss albino mice.

This review evaluates the effects of mass deworming for soil‐transmitted helminths on growth, educational achievement, cognition, school attendance, quality of life and adverse effects in children in endemic helminth areas. Mass deworming for soil‐transmitted helminths probably has little to no effect on weight, height, school attendance, cognition ...

Schistosomiasis‐Associated Pulmonary Hypertension
Schistosomiasis, a parasite‐borne disease, is highly prevalent in Africa and Asia; it is estimated that close to 20 million people worldwide have a severe form of the disease. The chronic form can affect the gastrointestinal system and lead to hepatosplenic disease, and it may cause cardiopulmonary complications, including pulmonary hypertension.

Hybridisations within the genus Schistosoma: implications for evolution, epidemiology and control [PDF]
SUMMARYHybridization of parasites is an emerging public health concern in our changing world. Hybridization and introgression in parasites and pathogens can have major impacts on the host and the epidemiology and evolution of disease.

Multidrug Resistance: An Emerging Crisis
The resistance among various microbial species (infectious agents) to different antimicrobial drugs has emerged as a cause of public health threat all over the world at a terrifying rate. Due to the pacing advent of new resistance mechanisms and decrease in efficiency of treating common infectious diseases, it results in failure of microbial response ...

Antiplasmodial activity of p-substituted benzyl thiazinoquinone derivatives and their potential against parasitic infections [PDF]
Malaria is a life-threatening disease and, what is more, the resistance to available antimalarial drugs is a recurring problem. The resistance of Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasites to previous generations of medicines has undermined malaria control ...

The aims of this work were to evaluate the in vitro and in vivo schistosomicidal properties of the methanolic extract of the aerial parts of Mitracarpus frigidus (MFM) and to determine its HPLC profile. For the in vitro experiment, four pairs of adult worms, obtained from infected mice, were exposed to different concentrations of MFM (100 to 400 μg/mL)
