Ruthenium Catalysed Transfer Deuteration of Heteroaromatics in D2O
The partial reduction of heterocycles with selective deuterium incorporation using formic acid/sodium formate, D2O and a ruthenium catalyst was achieved. A biphasic medium (toluene/D2O) allowed excellent catalyst recycling. The ruthenium center allowed an inversion of polarity of D+ that was transformed into deuteride.
