Depletion of deoxyribonucleoside triphosphate pools in tumor cells by nitric oxide

Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 2004
Nitric oxide displays pro- and anti-tumor activities, prompting further studies to better understand its precise role. Nitric oxide inhibits ribonucleotide reductase (RnR), the limiting enzyme for de novo dNTP synthesis. We report here the first detailed analysis of dNTP variations induced in tumor cells by NO.

Propagation of Nitric Oxide Pools During Controlled Mechanical Ventilation

Journal of Clinical Monitoring and Computing, 1998
Infusing nitric oxide at a constant rate into a breathing circuit with intermittent mainstream flow causes formation of nitric oxide pools between successive breaths. We hypothesized that incomplete mixing of these pools can confound estimates of delivered nitric oxide concentrations.Nitric oxide flowed at a constant rate into the upstream end of a ...

Phenylarsine oxide is able to dissipate synaptic vesicle acidic pool

Neurochemistry International, 2005
Phenylarsine oxide (PAO) has a number of targets in the neurons, one of them is exocytotic process. In this study, we have focused on the mechanisms of phenylarsine oxide action on Ca(2+)-dependent and Ca(2+)-independent neurotransmitter release from rat brain synaptosomes.

MR angiography with an ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide blood pool agent

Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 1997
AbstractThe purpose of the study was to investigate the use of a dextran‐coated ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIO) as a blood pool contrast agent for thoracic and abdominal MR angiography. Abdominal and thoracic MR angiography was performed in six healthy volunteers using two‐dimensional and three‐dimensional spoiled gradient echo (SPGR ...

Oxidative metabolism of the rat soleus neuron pool following hypobaric hypoxia

Brain Research Bulletin, 1990
After 7 weeks of hypoxic acclimation, oxidative enzyme (succinate dehydrogenase) activity of motoneurons in the rat soleus neuron pool was examined. Although the total oxidative metabolism of the neuron pool was not changed, the oxidative enzyme activity of small to medium sized (25-45 microns average soma diameter) alpha motoneurons was increased ...

Laboratory-scale in situ chemical oxidation of a perchloroethylene pool using permanganate

Journal of Contaminant Hydrology, 2002
In situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) is an emerging technology for the destruction of some chlorinated solvents present in subsurface environments. A laboratory investigation using a physical model was designed to assess the effectiveness of using permanganate as an oxidant to reduce the mass of a perchloroethylene (PCE) pool.

Zinc Oxide Nanowire Forest for Pool Boiling Heat Transfer

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2012
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowire forest is applied for the electronics cooling by means of pool boiling heat transfer. The forest was composed of lengthwise grown backbone and branched nanowires, which were highly dense and tree-like hierarchical structures.

Ignition of n-heptane pool by heated stagnating oxidizing flow

Combustion and Flame, 2010
The ignition temperature of a liquid pool of n-heptane by heated oxidizer in a stagnation flow was experimentally determined for system pressures of 0.61-3 atm and pressure-weighted strain rates of 60-350 s{sup -1}. The surface of the liquid pool was maintained at a fixed location through continuous replenishment.

Pool Boiling Enhancement through Graphene and Graphene Oxide Coatings

Heat Transfer Engineering, 2016
ABSTRACTBoiling has served as an effective means to dissipate large quantities of heat over small areas. Graphene, a two-dimensional material, has garnered significant attention of researchers due to its excellent thermal properties. In this study, copper test chips are dip coated with a solution consisting of graphene oxide and graphene and its pool ...
