Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment Improves Intestinal Barrier Function After Spinal Cord Injury in Rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2020
Intestinal barrier dysfunction is often observed clinically after spinal cord injury (SCI) and seriously affects long-term quality of life. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment has been proved to promote barrier function recovery after injury, but the ...

The On/Off History of Hydrogen in Medicine: Will the Interest Persist This Time Around?

open access: yesOxygen, 2023
Over 2000 publications including more than 100 human studies seem to indicate that humans have only recently benefited from or known about the medical effects of H2 within the past 15 years.

Hydrogen/nitrogen/oxygen defect complexes in silicon from computational searches

open access: yes, 2009
Point defect complexes in crystalline silicon composed of hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen atoms are studied within density-functional theory (DFT). Ab initio Random Structure Searching (AIRSS) is used to find low-energy defect structures.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Analyzing the Effects of Multi-Layered Porous Intraluminal Thrombus on Oxygen Flow in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

open access: yesOxygen, 2022
Determination of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) rupture risk involves the accurate prediction of mechanical stresses acting on the arterial tissue, as well as the wall strength which has a correlation with oxygen supply within the aneurysmal wall.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The contribution of grain boundary barriers to the electrical conductivity of titanium oxide thin films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Titanium oxide thin films were prepared by reactive magnetron sputtering. The reactive gas pulsing process was implemented to control the oxygen injection in the deposition process and, consequently, to tune the oxygen concentration in the films from pure
