Soybean Reproductive Traits Evaluated in Response to Temperature Stress and Elevated Oxygen; Three Peroxidase Transgenes Reduce Seed Abortion

open access: yesOxygen
In a previous Arabidopsis investigation, three ovule-specific cell-wall peroxidases decreased seed abortion rates. These peroxidases were expressed in soybean plants.

Flow Cytometry of Oxygen and Oxygen-Related Cellular Stress

open access: yesOxygen, 2023
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are unstable and highly reactive molecular forms that play physiological roles in cell signaling and immune defense. However, when ROS generation is not properly balanced by antioxidant defenses, a pathological condition ...

Effect of oxygen concentration on nanoindentation-induced phase transformations in ion-implanted amorphous silicon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The effect of the local oxygen concentration in ion-implanted amorphous Si (a-Si) on nanoindentation-inducedphase transformations has been investigated.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Extraction of Bioactive Compounds from Cistus creticus Leaves and Their Use in the Preparation of Yogurt Desserts

open access: yesOxygen
The objective of this study was to determine the optimal conditions for the recovery of bioactive and antioxidant compounds in aqueous solutions of Cistus creticus leaves and then employ the optimal extract for the enrichment of yogurt samples.

Impact of co-adsorbed oxygen on crotonaldehyde adsorption over gold nanoclusters : a computational study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Crotonaldehyde (2-butenal) adsorption over gold sub-nanometer particles, and the influence of co-adsorbed oxygen, has been systematically investigated by computational methods.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Ab initio study of the two-dimensional metallic state at the surface of SrTiO3: importance of oxygen vacancies

open access: yes, 2012
Motivated by recent angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) observations of a highly metallic two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) at the (001) vacuum-cleaved surface of SrTiO3 and the subsequent discussion on the possible role of oxygen ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
