Deubiquitylation and stabilization of p21 by USP11 is critical for cell-cycle progression and DNA damage responses

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2017
Significance Previous studies have demonstrated that p21 occupies a central position in cell-cycle regulation and DNA damage responses. As an unstable protein, the regulation of p21 stability has been extensively investigated over the past 20 years ...

A Programmable Semiconductor Containing Active Molecular Photoswitches Located in the Crystal's Volume Phase

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel approach for the design of functional semiconductors is presented, which utilizes the excellent optoelectronic properties of layered hybrid perovskites and the possibility to introduce a molecular photoswitch as the organic spacer. This concept is successfully demonstrated on a coumarin‐based system with the possibility to change the bandgap ...

Simvastatin-induced cell cycle arrest through inhibition of STAT3/SKP2 axis and activation of AMPK to promote p27 and p21 accumulation in hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2017
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is characterized by a poor prognosis and is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death worldwide. Simvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, which decreases cholesterol synthesis by inhibiting mevalonate pathways ...

Targeting p21 Degradation Locally [PDF]

open access: yesDevelopmental Cell, 2010
Just as the activity of many multifunctional proteins is restricted by subcellular localization, so is their regulation. In this issue of Development Cell, Starostina et al. identify an E3 ubiquitin ligase, CRL2(LRR1), for the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21 that specifically ubiquitylates cytoplasmic p21 to facilitate cell migration.

Nanodiamond‐Based Quantum Sensing Reveals Changes in Endo‐Lysosomal Activity of Stimulated Cardiac Fibroblasts in a Cellular Fibrosis Model

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Quantum sensing reveals intricate patterns linking endo‐lysosomal maturation to cardiac fibrosis progression, highlighting complexity in cellular remodeling. This study investigates fibroblast‐to‐myofibroblast transition under cell aging, stiffness, and TGF‐β stimulation, comparing nanodiamond uptake, endo‐lysosomal dynamics, and free radical ...

Control of the Restriction Point by Rb and p21

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2018
Significance The canonical Restriction Point model suggests that cells are born into a state in which they are uncommitted to the cell cycle, but will activate cyclin-dependent kinase 2 and cross the Restriction Point several hours later if sufficient ...

Testing CPT Symmetry with Supernova Neutrinos

open access: yes, 2005
Diagnosing core of supernova requires favor-dependent reconstruction of three species of neutrino spectra, \nu_e, \bar{\nu}_{e} and \nu_x (a collective notation for \nu_{\mu}, \bar{\nu}_{\mu}, \nu_{\tau}, and \bar{\nu}_{\tau}).

Where Most Frameworks Degrade: Flexible Bimetallic Phosphonate Crystals as pH‐Universal Supercapacitor Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Plastically flexible single crystals of the bimetallic phosphonate framework [Cu(2,2′‐bpy)VO(O3PC6H5)2] combine mechanical adaptability with robust pseudocapacitive charge storage. The material delivers about 140 Fg−1 at pH 4 and pH 10 and remains stable across pH 2‐12, enabling energy storage under comparatively mild electrolyte conditions.

A screen for inducers of p21waf1/cip1 identifies HIF prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors as neuroprotective agents with antitumor properties

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2013
Preventing neuronal death is a priority for treating neurological diseases. However, therapies that inhibit pathological neuron loss could promote tumorigenesis by preventing the physiological death of cancerous cells.

A lincRNA-p21/miR-181 family feedback loop regulates microglial activation during systemic LPS- and MPTP- induced neuroinflammation

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2018
The role of microglial-mediated sustained neuroinflammation in the onset and progression of Parkinson’s disease (PD) is well established, but the mechanisms contributing to microglial activation remain unclear. LincRNA-p21, a well studied long intergenic
